This Is the Time of Fulfillment – The season of Lent is our yearly spiritual journey with Jesus through his passion, death and resurrection. As a community of faith we mark those important moments along the road to Calvary where Jesus revealed the immense depth of God’s love for us. Individually, we choose to immerse ourselves in deeper prayer, the

suffering of fasting and increased good works so that we might have our hearts transformed and made ever more like God’s so that we can continue to reflect his great love in the world. This is a task that cannot wait. While we hope that heaven awaits us at a time still to come, we are called to ready ourselves now and be firmly set on the path to salvation. On Mission for The Church Alive! seeks to strengthen our communities of faith so that we might have every help and opportunity to be prepared for the Kingdom of God. May we be prepared during this time of fulfillment for all that God will work for us and through us. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

GOOD-BYE, MAURA GOODWIN! Less than two years ago, Maura Goodwin joined the staff of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish as part-time assistant to Prof. Nick Will, our Director of Music. Maura has often stepped in as our organist for Mass and choir director. But Maura is now leaving. She has accepted an offer from the Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre, Long Island, New York, where she was raised. She’ll be associate director of music at the Cathedral of Saint Agnes. That’s a promotion, a full-time job, and a return to her hometown—a big win for Maura. Maura studied organ at Franciscan University of Steubenville, under Nick’s direction. At Steubenville she received degrees in Theology, Catechetics, and Sacred Music. Maura recently finished a Master’s Degree in Sacred Music and Organ at Duquesne University, with Dr. Ann Labounksy. I’m sorry to see her go, but I’m happy to observe her advancing her career and continuing her service to the Church.

Lent is upon us! Confessions are available on Saturday, February 24, from 11:00 to 12:00 noon. There’ll be a family and toys in the St. Maximilian Kolbe Room, so your children can play and enjoy fellowship while you’re going to confession. Then later in Lent, additional confessions:

Sunday, March 4, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m. (Penance service w/ Bp. Winter & priests) Wednesday, March 21, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Please see the page elsewhere in this bulletin for our joint parish mission, Our Journey with God, February 26 through March 1. This is a special engagement for us, so please make yourself available those evenings. You’ll hear more at the 9:30 and 11:30 Masses over the next two weeks.

Don’t forget the Irish Fling, coming up March 3!

Friday, February 23, the 7:00 p.m. Stations of the Cross will be in the St. Vincent de Paul/Vincentian style. If you have a heart for the poor or the downtrodden, come and pray the Stations for them and about their plight!

"Through these Vincentian Stations of the Cross, Jesus invites us to journey with him and to reflect on his suffering as it continues in the lives of His people.

In solidarity with all who suffer, let us pray..."

These Vincentian Stations of the Cross will be repeated on Friday, March 16, at the 1:30 Stations here at SEAS..

During Lent let’s focus on our Church growth as well as our own personal growth.

There are many people around us who need to know the Good News of God's love in their lives.

Let's “give up” our fears about sharing our most precious treasure! Jesus fasted for 40 days in the desert, not for his own sake, but in order to prepare for his ministry, to bring light to those in darkness and healing to those in affliction. The first Christians, whom Jesus left behind to carry on this ministry, followed in his footsteps. They were interested not just in personal growth, but also very much concerned themselves with church growth. We are asked to do the same ... not just to work on our personal faith, but to share it. How many Church-attending Catholics do you know who seem to be coming to Mass out

of duty, or as a habit? Who do you know who has been away from the Church, thinking they don't 'need' Church? Do you know anyone who doesn't even know the amazing love available from the Living

God? Can you think of someone who needs light in the darkness of a situation or lifestyle,

someone who needs to be healed from their suffering or their hardships? Evangelization doesn't mean being pushy, or force-feeding. It does mean that we help people to know that a loving God exists and is ready to reveal His presence in their lives, to guide them, and even willing to take control of their lives if they choose to let Him in. Lent is one of the many great gifts and riches of the Catholic Church, providing faith-filled Catholics with a wonderful opportunity to look around and see who we can INVITE - into our hearts, into our lives, into our Church. Who do you know who could use a good dose of experiencing God's love? Pray for them first, and then tell them what you're doing for Lent, and invite them to our 4-parish Mission*, to Mass, to Stations of the Cross*, to Confession*, or even to our Fish Fry*! (*see our Lenten Schedule of Events elsewhere in this bulletin).

Let’s grow our Church for Lent! Let’s “give up” our fear of rejection!

Let’s SHARE Lent!

RCIA: LENT PURIFICATION Those of Vicariate 2 to be baptized and those to be brought into the full communion with the Catholic Church at Easter are celebrating the Rites of Election and Recognition at St. Paul Cathedral with Bishop Zubik next Sunday afternoon, February 25. They will continue their formation each week throughout Lent in this Period of Purification and Enlightenment. It is a period for all the Elect, the Candidates, the RCIA team, and the whole community to have this time of repentance, reflection on new insights, and preparation for the great feast of the Resurrection. During the parish Rite of Sending next weekend at the 9:30 a.m. Mass, we acknowledge our catechumen, Correy Dandoy, with her sponsor, Justin Dandoy, and her RCIA companion/catechist, Erin Hodgins. May we include them daily in our Lenten prayer as Correy takes this next step in the Rite of Christian Initiation process.

SEAS SUBSTANCE ADDICTION MINISTRY (SAM) We meet on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in Room 5 of the Bayley building. Our meeting lasts one hour. Our February meeting is Tuesday, February 20. Our rosary for recovery will precede the meeting in the Immaculate Conception chapel at 6:30 p.m. The Lenten season encourages us to focus on Step Five: “Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.” As stated in “The Twelves Steps and the Twelve Traditions”, pp. 56-57: “This practice of admitting one’s defects to another person is, of course, very ancient. It has been validated in every century, and it characterizes the lives of all spiritually centered and truly religious people. But today religion is by no means the sole advocate of this saving principle. Psychiatrists and psychologists point out the deep need every human being has for practical insight and knowledge of his own personality flaws and for a discussion of them with an understanding and trustworthy person. So far as alcoholics are concerned, A.A. would go even further. Most of us would declare that without a fearless admission of our defects to another human being we could not stay sober. It seems plain that the grace of God will not enter to expel our destructive obsessions until we are willing to try this.” Join us on February 20, at 7:00 p.m., for a discussion on the Sacrament of Confession and Step Five.

WINNER! Congratulations to Gina Masciola, the winner of the Knights of Columbus raffle held on February 6. The winning number was 003. Thanks to all who purchased and sold tickets in support of the Knights. The next drawing will be on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 13, 2018. Tickets will go on sale after Easter.
