Efthymios Warlamis

A unique exhibition concept dedicated to the Holy Mountain of Athos - the monasteries, the chapels and small monastic dependencies, the landscape, the Orthodox monks and their ritual life. The exhibition shows the reality of Mount Athos which is defined by spirituality.

Efthymios Warlamis, Prof. Mag. Arch. biography (excerpt)

Efthymios Warlamis, born in Greece in 1942, is an architect, painter, writer and educa-tor. He studied architecture at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, where Wiener Werkstätte cofounders Josef Hoffman and Koloman Moser once taught. Warlamis has taught and lectured at the university’s Department of Architecture, as well as at other European universities and art academies.

Warlamis set up and directed numerous experimental research projects, including “Iden-tity of the City,” the Santorini Architectural Seminar, and the Santorini Ecological Academy. While teaching experimental architecture at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg in 1988, Warlamis developed his New Age philosophy of architecture, art and design.

Since 1992, Warlamis has been Director of the International Center for Art and Design (IDEA) in Schrems, Austria. As of 2008 he is also Director of The Waldviertel Art Museum, Austria.

Warlamis sees art as a discipline of existential perception which bears a universal mes-sage. His multifaceted works of art and artistic projects, such as Alexander 2000, Mother Olym-piad, Poetic Architecture, Le Jardin Mystique, and I Believe, are exhibited worldwide. Since 1997 his most extensive exhibition, Alexander 2000: The Spirit of Tolerance, comprising 2,000 paintings, has travelled to museums in Greece, Cyprus, Egypt, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Jordan.Works by Warlamis are held in the Graphic Arts Collection of the Albertina, Vienna; the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna; the Alexander Iolas Collection; the German Museum of Architecture in Frankfurt; and many other major museums and private collections.
