Active pursuitsAncient volcanic peaks, whispering rainforests and pristine waterways – the natural beauty of the hinterland will take your breath away, with no shortage of outdoor pursuits.Discover picturesque waterfalls and scenic lookouts from Mapleton and Montville, through to the Glass House Mountains and Kenilworth. There are also popular attractions at Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve and Maleny Botanic Gardens and Birdworld.

For those wishing to really get to know the hinterland, the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk is a 58km four-day walk in the Blackall Range, with bush campsites along the way. Areas covered include Baroon Pocket, Kondalilla National Park, Mapleton Falls National Park and Mapleton National Park. With subtropical rainforest, tall eucalypt forest and waterfalls, it offers beautiful scenery and for those wishing for something a little easier, day visitors can access short half-day and full-day walks within the Great Walk route.

ArtsThe Sunshine Coast Hinterland is a hub for talented visual artists, renowned galleries, studios and theatres that spans out across the Sunshine Coast. Venture along the Art Gallery Trail and you will soon discover a world of oil and water colour paintings, sandstone and marble sculptures, porcelain and hand-blown glass, wood and textiles, jewellery and photography and much more. Add to this the visual pleasures offered by the picturesque landscapes as you drive along the way, and it’s clear that the trail is as much about the natural environment as it is about art.
