• Capable of generating 7% of the UK’s
electricity.
• At least 25,000 different job
opportunities during construction and
5,600 workers on site at the peak.
• £100 million into the local economy
during peak construction
• 900 operational staff and contribution
of around £40 million to the local
economy during each year of its 60 year
operation.

Somerset Councils delivering almost £100million • £20million community fund;
• £7.5million housing fund;
• Over £10million invested into skills and training
and education;
• £5.5million to support economic development; and
• Nearly £16million on highway improvement schemes.

involved over the lifecycle of the project there
is likely to be substantial additional demand

The Housing Fund
£7.5million to provide support for initiatives designed to deliver
additional housing capacity. For example;
Accommodation Office and procedures for housing construction
staff.
Scheme for the accreditation of landlords, likely to be run via
LocalPad.
Stimulating new supply – seeking to support stalled housing sites
and refurbishments.
Bringing empty homes back into use.
Supporting rent guarantee schemes.

The Accommodation Office
• The Accommodation Office has been set up to help people to find suitable
accommodation.
Using a database of providers a way-finding service informs people of details for
providers in a range of accommodation types:
-Hotels
-Bed and Breakfast
-Rental properties
-Rooms for rent
• A website is being developed to offer an on-line service to make access easier for
the large numbers of workers expected to stay in the local area.
