We are pleased to announce that the Rotary Club of
Foothill-Highlands received an award at this past
week’s District Conference. Of the 41 clubs in District
5180, 28 clubs received the Governor’s Citation; and
of those, only nine were with Distinction. This is
reflective of the combined efforts of our members
and we should be very proud of all we accomplished
this fiscal year to date thru April 15th!!!!

EVERYONE BRING YOUR POCKET
CHANGE — TO AFFECT CHANGE BY
ENDING POLIO THROUGHOUT THE
WORLD.
The END POLIO NOW campaign is one of
Rotary International’s top priorities this year.
Rotary and the Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation have extended their partnership
during the critical endgame phase of the
Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Thanks to
this partnership our contributions are
matched two for one—$25 becomes $75.
Total for the year is 793.26. That is “77.8%” of
our goal of $1,000. Only $206.74 to go before
June 30th.
ANNUAL GIVING/PAUL HARRIS
SUSTAINING FELLOWS
We continue our goal to have Every
Rotarian contribute at least $100 to The
Rotary Foundation and strive to achieve
the status of 100% EREY and 100% Paul
Harris Sustaining Fellows for the third year
in a row.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS
WEEK’S PROGRAM
Twelve Foothill-Highlands Rotarians
gathered in Ranch Cordova at American River
College’s Collision and Diesel Center located
at Mather Field.
Our host, Frank Beaushaw, is an instructor
in the program. He gave us some background
on his journey to become involved with the
program and eventually to become an
instructor.
He told us the program is approximately ten
years old and there are 59 students currently
enrolled. It takes anywhere from nine months
to two years to complete the course of
instruction depending on what area the
student wants to go into before they can
graduate and get a job.
ARC offers a wide variety of programs to
appeal to a diverse group of students. The
Automotive Technology, Automotive
Collision Technology and Diesel/Clean Diesel
Technology programs are a combination of
classroom and hands-on shop experiences
that prepare students for careers in all phases
of the transportation industry. Students are
trained in the use of workshop manuals in
traditional and computerized formats, hand-
held meters and scanners and special shop
tools including power and hand tools.
The Automotive Collision Technology course of
instruction provides training in automotive
collision technology. Topics include an
introduction to collision technology, structural
and non-structural repair, refinishing, collision
estimating, industry safety and electrical
repair. A sample of the requirements is as
follows: Component Repairs, Non-Structural
Repair, Structural Repair, Automotive
Refinishing, Automotive Collision Software
Systems, Estimating 1, Heating and Air-
Conditioning Systems, Suspension and
Steering Systems, Automotive Electrical
Systems and Gas Metal Arc Welding of Sheet
Steel.
The Diesel Technology program provides
training in diesel technology. Topics include an
introduction to diesel technology, diesel engine
repair, basic hydraulic principles of diesel
technology, diesel brake systems and diesel
power trains. A sample of the requirements is
as follows: Diesel Preventive Maintenance,
Diesel Engine Repair, Basic Hydraulic
Principles of Diesel Technology, Diesel Brake
Systems, Diesel Electrical Systems, Diesel
Power Trains and Clean Diesel Software
Support.
Frank shared with us that new Emissions
Laws precipitated the need for diesel
technicians.
The cost for students to complete the program
is $6,000 vs. $65,000 at UTI. Most classes are
four units at a cost of $46 per unit.
Following are pictures taken during out tour of
the facility.
