CELEBRATING THE REGION'S HIGH FLYERS... PREPARING FOR BOARDING...We hope you enjoyed your flight!
March 21st, and over 200 people reached for the skies in Manchester at the Concorde Centre to celebrate the very best internal communications and IC talent in our two mighty regions.
And what an experience it was!
The glittering 2019 IoIC High Flyer Central and North Awards took off and landed successfully. Yet again, we continue to aim high, and we've heard from you that this year's top-flight awards, conducted under the wings of the design icon Concorde, were the best yet! No pressure for next year's awards then! A big thanks to the involvement of our members and volunteers from across the regions for making it happen.
This year, we gave out another record number of awards and partied until the early hours. In fact, some partied well beyond the flight crew curfew! And thanks to everyone who tweeted about the awards.
We’re incredibly grateful to all the people and organisations who, over the past nine months, have given up their time to help us create the awards and the event.
The regional awards are important for a number of reasons. Primarily, they recognise the important and outstanding work being done in internal communications across our regions. The awards also bring together in-house teams with consultants, agencies and events professionals for an evening of fun, laughter and networking.
And, finally, thanks to everyone who entered the awards and attended on the evening. The awards make an important financial contribution to help us run the IoIC, which as a not-for-profit organisation relies on our teams of volunteers to help us keep championing the work we do.
On behalf of everyone at the IoIC, thank you for your support, and keep reaching for the skies!
Many thanks
IoIC Director and Regions Director, Rich Baker IoIC Director & North Director, Andy HoltIoIC Central Region Director, Kirsty Bowen
Special thanks go to our top-flight crew of judges who flew through mountains of entries. Thanks to VMA for kindly volunteering their boardroom, and Brenda from IoIC for organising and flying in the suitcases of entry submissions.

“ “The Central & North Awards 2019 was a fantastic night, and being under the wings of Concorde certainly made it an experience! We were thrilled to celebrate and award so much amazing talent in these two regions and being up there to give out the gongs and see the joy in recognising the work we all do is a true highlight and privilege. Congratulations to all our winners and everyone that entered. To see such fantastic work in the internal communication profession is testament to those hard-working individuals that make it happen. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES...
"I was delighted to receive such an accolade for The Quarterly magazine which celebrated its first birthday in December 2018. I thoroughly enjoyed an evening filled with laughter, great food and above all fantastic company (right underneath the wings of the Concorde!)."
Sarah Atkinson, Strategic Support Officer to the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, York St John University
“This year’s event was spectacular, taking place beneath the wings of the most iconic of all passenger jets. Concorde was a project born of collaboration and a shared vision of the future – a perfect metaphor for the barrier-breaking comms teams being recognised in the ceremony below.”Alice Oliver, Head of Internal Communications at the University of Derby
"We’re so proud to have won Best Campaign and to be recognised with Awards of Excellence for our magazine and in-house team. It was really important to us that we engaged with everyone at Kuehne + Nagel UK, no matter where they’re based or what their role is, and that clearly shone through in our results. What a great way to celebrate the amazing work which goes on across the industry!"
Joanna Freeman, UK Communications Associate Business Partner, Kuehne + Nagel UK
"Our team from Coventry Building Society was delighted to pick up a couple of Awards of Excellence. As first-time entrants, we’re thrilled our hard work was recognised amongst such fantastic peers. It’s great encouragement to carry on improving our internal communications and add real value to the organisation."Kirsty Bowen, Internal Communications Manager, Coventry Building Society
“The NVS team had a fantastic evening at the IoIC C&N Awards. It was the first time the organisation had entered and we were delighted to be shortlisted and then incredibly proud to take home the ‘Class Winner’ Award for ‘Success on a Shoestring’. Many thanks to everyone who made the event a great one.”Sherrie Burnham, Head of Communications, National Veterinary Services
“A fantastic night with an amazing community of fellow professionals. I’ve been to lots of award nights, and what struck me about this one was the genuine warmth and generosity on display for everyone, whether they were shortlisted, recognised or category award winners. I’ve only been a member of IoIC for a short time but already feel welcome, and it was great to see so many familiar and friendly faces at the awards night. We were delighted to be recognised with an Award of Excellence, and are looking forward to entering the awards again next year to try to go one better!"Craig Smith, BigPicture Learning
"Winning ‘Best Agency’ under the wings of Concorde is up there as one of H&H’s biggest high points. Walking the talk is at the heart of our culture, so our hearts sang when the judge’s said we’re ‘truly practicing what we preach’. We’re constantly pushing and testing the boundaries in employee engagement. And in doing so we’re creating new possibilities so that others can get excited about what’s possible for them."Hannah Thoresby, H&H
“We had a fantastic evening at the awards – it was amazing to have dinner underneath Concorde. And we were delighted to win the Best Use of Social Media Award. We can’t wait for the next event!”Michael Smith, Communications and Engagement Manager, Anchor Hanover
“A wonderful evening meeting warm and engaging people, in an iconic setting, topped off with three certificates and a Best Writing Award. Concorde may be retired but we certainly hit new heights!”Lizz Lee, IC Manager, Topps Tiles
“We are delighted to have won three, awards for the workplace branding in our Bristol office! We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved and it’s great for our work to be recognised by the IoIC. We had a great time at the awards ceremony too… it was first class!”Jen Lock, Senior Internal Comms Manager, DLG
"Brilliant night celebrating our #agtopteam achievements and the wonderful internal communications talent across our region's. Congratulations to all the High Flyers!"Nicola Breen, AG Communications
“Another fantastic IoIC Awards – they keep getting better and better! I was over the moon to win the best newsletter award this year. We are a small profit-for-purpose business, and a newly established communications team – so getting that industry recognition was a particular achievement for us.”Jodie Collins, Karbon Homes
“I have to admit when the award was announced, my legs turned to jelly! It’s always very special to be named Class Winner at the IoIC Central and North awards.” Alan Coates, partner – digital, 44 Communications
"It was great to see so many IC professionals celebrating some fantastic pieces of work. The venue was spectacular and the theme was perfect. We were proud to take home an Award of Excellence and left feeling inspired and motivated. We will be back next year!"Gemma Smith, Capgemini
“From sitting under the wings of a Concorde, to sharing ideas and celebrating in style, we had a truly memorable evening. It really was a night to remember and one that showcased the fantastic talents of the work produced in our regions.”Northumbrian Water Group
