4. Ali’s Wife

“What an absurd man you are!” she

cried. “Tell me where the treasure is, and

I’ll get it myself.” But Ali refused to say

where he had found the treasure. He also

told his wife that she must not go looking

for it.

That night, Alis’ wife lay awake in bed.

How could she get the treasure? Where

could it be? Then, she suddenly sat up

straight.

“Of course!” she whispered. “Part of Ali’s

shirt is still on the bramble bush.”

Now that she knew where the treasure

was hidden, how could she get it?

Immediately, she jumped out of bed and

ran swiftly to her cousin’s farm which was

next to theirs. All was silent as she ran

through the fields. The full moon lit her

way.
