Are you Planning Your Lenten Resources?Consider these free options from the Society of St.Andrew: 1)Lenten Devotional Booklet: Into the WildernessThis booklet features daily scripture readings, devotional reflections, and prayers for the fortydays and seven Sundays in Lent. The theme isbased on Matthew 4:111, Jesus' temptations in thewilderness. The writers' focus on times their faithhas been tested and ways they have felt God'spresence in their wilderness experience.2)Good Friday Fast: In Remembrance of MeThe Society of St. Andrew Good Friday Fast invitespersons to mark the time between MaundyThursday (the Last Supper) and the Resurrectionwith a period of purposeful hunger; fasting as a wayof remembering the suffering of Jesus. This smallbooklet contains prayers that provide sustenancethroughout the fast. See the links listed underthe"Church Resource Center" for other availableresources. Your church is invited to send two representativesto the Heartland Presbytery Youth Council. Thisis a great leadership development opportunity for youth. Ideally your church would send one boyand one girl/one high school and one middle schoolyouth, but the youth council understands that this
demographic may not be present in everycongregation. We would like broad representationfrom Heartland Presbytery. The youth council'snext meeting is Saturday, February 28th. Representatives need to be recommended by theirhome session/pastor. For more information, speakto a youth council adult Jason Carle, Mari LynJones, Clare Lozano, Miles McDonald, CarolynRich, Jennifer Scheneman, or contact MalindaSpencer.
Registration is now open for the StewardshipKaleidoscope event. This year's event will be inKansas City at the Airport Hilton, March 911.The full event schedule and registration forms areavailable by clicking Stewardship Kaleidoscope.Because the event is in Kansas City this year it isparticularly convenient and cost effective for ourcongregations to send a team to attend. Althoughshared mission giving has held steady in HeartlandPresbytery and many of our churches are actuallyreporting increased tithes and offerings, manyothers indicate that their mission and ministrysuffers from insufficient funding. This event is anopportunity to gain skills to address yourcongregations issues in generosity, financialdiscipleship, stewardship, endowment building andfaithful preaching and teaching a biblicalperspective on wealth and sharing.
