The primary optical area:

The stars name ‘Liam Neeson’ has been put at the top before the title of the movie so viewers will take notice and to show that Liam Neeson is the main star of the film.The title of the movie is in a bigger font than the other type of writing because that’s the main priority that the viewer needs to know is the name of the film. Tagline the tagline is quite creepy and tells a lot what genre of film the movie is

Strong Fallow area:

The strong fallow are contains the title and a very deep slogan/ quote. This has been put in the strong fallow area because that’s where people will read first as there looking at the poster so it’s essential to have the title here as that’s where people most often would read after observing what’s on the poster.

Weak fallow area:

In the weak fallow area there is the right hand side of the star with a gun prop in his hand this shows that the star does kill during the film and there is a lot of death used and is directed at a more older aged audience. This has been put here because its where people look last after everything else on the poster and it’s not the main priority of the poster.

The terminal area:

The release date used in bold red letters to stand out to catch the viewer’s eyes, also there are gravestones in the background of the star which relates to the title of the movie and immediately tells you that the film is about death and killing.

Axis of orientation:

The Axis of orientation is basically the main actors/ objects which are used in the movie which describes the genre what the movie is. For example in this film you have then main actor ‘Liam Neeson’ covering the front cover which instantly tells you he is going to be the main guy, also he has a gun in his hand and a suit case and is also wearing a big leather coat which looks suspicious and creepy and shows that it’s a action thriller genre film.

Genre codes and convensions

Black and white to show that the film is very dark and is a quite horrifying, at the bottom in the back ground there is a pond but there’s blood used in it which immediately shows that its violent related film and is relevant when you watch the movie. Also the gun in the Liam Neesons hand shows you that he kills people and is the main actor in the film as his name is put in bug bold letters at the top of the poster.

Anchorage:

They use anchorage in the poster by using Liam Neeson the main actor looking straight at the camera which makes you feel creeped out and intimidated how he looks big and scary. This gets you dragged in and wanting to watch the film because he seems like the action thriller type guy to get you excited in films.
