Gupta’s Golden Age

After Mauryan Empire Fell in 187 BCE…
India broke into separate kingdoms and fought each other for the next 500 years.
In 320 CE, the Chandragupta family conquered kingdoms and then formed alliances with them by arranging marriages with sons and daughters of other rulers.
The Gupta line of kings lasted until about 550 CE.

Empires
Largest empire India had known since the Mauryas.
Like the Mauryans, the Guptas had a council of advisors and family members help the king make decisions.
Areas were broken up into provinces that were given a lot of independence as far as decision-making.
These strategies helped the Guptas stay in power for a long time.
These were considered peaceful times.
