Jobcentre PlusJobcentre Plus is part of the Department for Work and Pensions.

What is provided: Employment advice, job brokerage and screening for local jobs. Access to work clubs, training courses, work experience, volunteering, CV advice, online job searching and careers advice (National Careers Service is onsite at the Jobcentre).

Internet access – public computers and Wi-Fi for job search and applying for benefits online.

Universal Jobmatch – internet based job-search.

Who is eligible: All people looking for employment, benefit claimants and their partners.

Work coaches can:

• conduct work search interviews tailored and personalised to claimants’ individual circumstances

• refer customers to job opportunities, work experience and vocational training

• refer customers to training to address basic skills and ESOL needs

What is provided: The aim is to ‘Educate, Empower and Engage’ (the three Es) - helping women feel more confident by providing them with the tools to raise their awareness of what’s available to them within the local community.

A large number of Moroccan and Arabic-speaking women face enormous hurdles and barriers in accessing paid employment. We provide a safe and motivating environment, running workshops for personal development, confidence building and employability.

What is provided: L2E is a FREE 12 week employability and volunteer programme open to residents in Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham and Westminster. It is designed to help people who are finding it difficult to access employment and volunteering opportunities. The programme aims to improve confidence, self-esteem and enable participants to enter volunteering opportunities whilst improving their employability skills.

Eligibility: Open to anyone over 18 years old who is unemployed and living in one of the three boroughs.

What is provided: 16 week employability programme, based at Resco Living – a furniture and appliance business based in Hounslow. Programme participants volunteer three days a week, developing skills for either warehousing or administration work. The programme provides work experience, relevant industry training, employability training (including CV writing and Interview skills) and one-to-one tailored support.

Eligibility: Anyone who is unemployed. Typically, participants include those with the greatest barriers to employment such as criminal records and mental health problems. People overcoming substance misuse must be 3 months abstinent.

What is provided: Working Chance is the UK’s only recruitment consultancy for women with criminal convictions and young women leaving care.

We support women into paid employment and voluntary/work experience placements, and provide training covering topics such as writing CVs and job applications, disclosure of a conviction and interview technique.

We provide support in overcoming any additional barriers to finding a job – such as housing, debt and finances, and counselling.

Eligibility: Women who have been in contact with the criminal justice system within the last three years, and women aged 18-25 who have previously spent time in care (and who may or may not have a conviction), who are looking for work in London, Manchester or the surrounding areas.

What is provided: Mind training and employment programmes are recovery focused and combine educational, creative and wellbeing activities to achieve the best outcomes for trainees and adult learners. The courses are offered at a number of different levels and combinations. Students can choose from taster sessions, one off workshops or year-long courses where you can develop, consolidate and test out your skills and prepare for further study or employment. Taught by experienced tutors, skills assistants, peer employment workers and volunteers, Mind courses are highly valued by our graduate trainees and adult learners.

Eligibility: Mind courses are open to adult learners who have experience of mental health problems and who need recovery focused training and employment support to re/start their employment or further study.

What is provided: New Horizons “Multi Activity” centre is a modern, lively, convivial centre for all those aged 50 and over.

Our aim is to promote active lifestyles and independence, provide new interests and challenges, and support health and well-being.

Our training includes drama, languages, art and culture, men’s only programmes, carer’s only programmes, keep fit and physical activities, IT and computing, plus many others.

What is provided: Advice and information for people wanting to start their own business or become self-employed. Business Advisors can help with business start-up and continuing growth and expansion. Help is also available with loans, financial planning, cash flow forecasts, market research, sales and marketing and financial management. The centre also runs the Big Cheese loan fund in partnership with the Credit Union. The centre also runs an Enterprise Club and seminars on specific topics including business, fashion, e-marketing, crowd funding, import/export & branding.

Eligibility: Subsidised advice currently only available to residents of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. No restrictions for advice and training courses though fees are payable for most.
