St. Gregory the Great

Mission Statement

St. Gregory the Great is a Catholic Church made up of people of many different ages, talents, and cultural backgrounds. We are an urban faith community with a small town feel of welcome and hospitality. Motivated by our baptismal calling, we accept our duty to embody the presence of Jesus Christ in the world and to take up the mission he entrusted to us by our word and example. We glorify God through support and service of our time, talent, and treasure to our church and to the larger community in which we live.

Dear Parishioners, In the first letter of John, Chapter 4, verse 8, we hear, “God is love.” These three simple words capture a profound mystery. Whenever we find authentic love, we find a hint of God. The tender and tenacious love of parents. The resilient love of spouses. The compassionate love that reaches out to the poor, the homeless, the hungry, the sick, the suffering, and the bereaved. The courageous love which speaks the truth in the face of injustice and persecution. God is present in and through all of this. Easter is all about God who loved us so deeply that he gave his only Son, Jesus Christ, for us. We have experienced that divine love this past week in the bread and wine of Holy Thursday, the suffering and cross of Good Friday and the life and light of the Easter vigil. We have recalled God’s love for us in the magnificent events of Holy Week. Today, Easter Sunday, we celebrate and give thanks for that great love which has won for us the hope and the promise of new and eternal life. And today we are invited to look for ways during the coming Easter season in which we can return that love to God by sharing our time, our talent, and our treasure with others, especially those in need. At this time I want to thank each of you for your love for our parish expressed by your helpfulness and generosity throughout the year. The Easter collection is one of the main supports of our parish. Please continue your fine support of our spiritual and material endeavors. It is my hope and prayer that in this coming Easter season, you will experience the love of God and the new life of Christ through the people, places, events and circumstances of your everyday lives. On behalf of the priests and staff of St. Gregory the Great Church, I want to wish all of you a happy and blessed Easter. Know that you are daily in my prayers. In Christ, Fr. Paul

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY Today as we celebrate the feast of Easter we find the challenge of also seeing and believing the resurrection that comes through our own lives of self-sacrifice. It is then that we are truly Easter people! As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul poor box, know that you are a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering and you give them Easter hope and joy.

TO TEACH WHO CHRIST IS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE Currently, $406,947 has been pledged to the To Teach Who Christ Is Capital Campaign. What this means for our parish is that if all pledges are paid in full, our parish will receive a rebate of $244,168. At this point, we have $215,377 in our TTWCI account at the Archdiocese of Chicago bank. My thanks to all who have paid their pledges in full. Now that the new boilers have been successfully installed in our Grammar/High School building, any additional funds we receive from TTWCI will be used to replenish the funds in our Parish Building and Maintenance Fund to cover the costs of future facilities repairs. Thank you for your generosity to and support of the To Teach Who Christ Is Capital Campaign. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me. – Fr. Paul
