Adopt A School

This spring, Robroy Industries,Verona, participated in the

Education Partnership’s Adopt-A-School Program. Headquarters choseto adopt Pittsburgh Spring Hill K-5, aTitle I school located in the North Sideof Pittsburgh. This decision was madeafter hearing about the educationalneeds of its students from KathleenLiberto, Jean Liberto’s daughter, andDanelle Uniatowki. Ms. Liberto servesas a Speech-Language Pathologist atthe school and Ms. Uniatowki is afourth grade math teacher there.

Children in low-income schools, such as Spring Hill, face special chal-lenges. Most of the students attendingSpring Hill K-5 do not have the sup-plies at home to finish homeworkassignments, such as pencils, crayonsand paper. The lack of resources putsthese children and their teachers at avery large disadvantage for educationalsuccess.

Robroy purchased supplies tobuild “Power Tool Homework Kits” forthe students of Spring Hill K-5.Working in two teams in an assemblyline fashion, the HeadquartersAssociates created 250 kits in a rela-tively short amount of time. Each toolkit included pencils, crayons, markers, notebooks, binders, a pencil sharpener, glue, scissors, tissues, a toothbrushand toothpaste. A handwritten note ofencouragement written by aHeadquarters Associate was alsoincluded in each tool kit.

On April 8, 2016, the associatespresented Pittsburgh Spring Hill K-5with the homework tool kits at an

assembly held at the school. TheSpring Hill Drum Corps greeted theRobroy entourage along with the smil-ing faces of the student body.Associates had a memorable daymeeting the students and distributingthe tool kits. The students were over-joyed to receive their “Power ToolHomework Kits” and the notes ofencouragement, which were often thefirst items pulled from the bags. AsDanelle Uniatowki explained, knowingthat someone cares about them andtheir education meant just as much tothe students as the tool kits. It was agreat day for everyone involved.

Spring Hill’s drum corps welcomed the guests.

Jeff McIlroy addressed a class of inquisitive students. The notes of encouragement were of particularinterest to the students.

Jeff and Rob McIlroy helped to hand out thetool kits.
