It is commonly assumed that the gospel message which Jesus Christ brought is that He died for our

sins. Many believe I Corinthians 15:1-3 backs this up. However, focusing on this passage to theexclusion of what Jesus Himself said, as well as the context and the rest of the chapter, gives an

incomplete picture. I Corinthians 15:1-3 says,

Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received

and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preachedto youunless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received:

that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. . . .

While Jesus Christ's death for our sins is, without question, extremely "good news," it is in fact

only apartof the reason that He came to earth, as the rest of the context shows. But before lookingat the rest of I Corinthians 15, consider what message Jesus Christ brought:

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of thekingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.

    (Matthew 4:23)

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the

gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

    (Matthew 9:35)

Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching thegospel of the

kingdom of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of Godis at hand.

repent, and believe in the gospel." (Mark 1:14-15)

[Jesus] said to them, "I must preach the kingdom of Godto the other cities also, because for

this purpose I have been sent." (Luke 4:43)

Now it came to pass, afterward, that [Jesus] went through every city and village, preachingand bringing the glad tidings [gospel] of the kingdom of God. (Luke 8:1)

The law and theprophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been

preached, and everyone is pressing into it. And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass

away than for one title of the law to fail. (Luke 16:16-17)

And thisgospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the

nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14)

From Jesus' own words, it is clear that the "good news" which Jesus Christ brought was about theKingdom of God. The "gospel ofJesus Christ" is simply the message of good news that Jesus

preachednot a message aboutJesus. It is not primarily a message about the events in His life andof His becoming the Savior of the worldalthough it most certainly does include all that. ButJesus Christ's predominate theme in His "good news" announcement was the Kingdom of God.

    Scriptures about Jesus Gospel emphasize.

    NASB -

Mat 11:5 the BLIND RECEIVE SIGHT and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed

and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the POOR HAVE THE GOSPELPREACHED TO THEM.

Mat 26:13 "Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole

world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her."

Jesus said this gospel. What gospel Jesus talking about? Is that the gospel

about death and resurrection of Jesus for our sins? NO! Its about the gospel of the

    kingdom!

Mar 1:1 - The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. THE MESSAGE OF JESUS!

Mar 1:14 Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee,

preaching the gospel of God, 15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the

kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."Here we can clearly see what is the gospel which Jesus preached.

Mar 8:35 (Mar 10:29) - "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, butwhoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it.

For which gospel should we give away our life for? For the gospel which

Jesus preached and not about Jesus died and resurrected for our sins.

Mar 13:10 "The gospel must first be preached to all the nations.

Again, which gospel is Jesus talking about? Its about the gospel which Jesus

preached and not accept Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins.

Johns gospel is just as same as the gospel of Jesus Christ -Luk 3:11 - And he would answer and say to them, "The man who has two tunics is to share

with him who has none; and he who has food is to do likewise." 12 Andsome tax collectors

also came to be baptized, and they said to him, "Teacher, what shall we do?" 13 And he

said to them, "Collect no more than what you have been ordered to." 14 Some soldiers were

questioning him, saying, "And what aboutus, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do

    3/21

not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your

    wages."

Luk 3:18 - So with many other exhortations he (John) preached the gospel to the people.

Luk 4:18 "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HEANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT

ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF

SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED,19

TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD."

    This is the gospel!

Luk 9:6 Departing, they began going throughout the villages, preaching the

    gospel and healing everywhere.

What would be the gospel that the disciples preaching at this time? Its about the gospel of

the kingdom of God and not believing in Jesus just for the forgiveness of sins.

Luk 20:1 On one of the days while He was teaching the people in the temple and

preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders confronted

    Him,

What was the gospel that Jesus would be preaching in the temple at that time

before his crucifixion and resurrection? Sure its about the gospel about the

kingdom of God. And every time when Jesus say Preach the Gospel He meant

only this gospel and NOT the gospel what we hear around now-a-days. (believe in

Jesus for your sins to be forgiven)

The purpose for which Jesus sent into this world isLuk 4:43 But He said to them, "I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I

was sent for this purpose." - NASB

Jesus completed His work which was given to Him by God the Father even before He was

    crucified!

Joh 17:4 "I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work

which You have given Me to do.

In the context for Luke 4:43 is just perfect--he was indeed sent by

    God to preach the gospel.

Gosh, we usually hunt all over the Bible for passages on why he was

sent, and they are nothing at all like that. Jesus came to die for us, so

we look for verses on sacrifices and dealing with the problem of sin.

Here we have Jesus saying that he came to earth to preach the

gospel of the kingdom. He describes the kingdom as a hidden

treasure, and now I learn that no one is taking the time to look for it?

    This is very strange.

Mat 13:44 "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and

hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

After all, this thing about treasure is the gospel of the kingdom, and

the gospel of the kingdom is the gospel of Jesus Christ. It has to be

the gospel of Jesus Christ, because this is the gospel Jesus was

preaching. And surely he knows his own gospel!

Luk 17:20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom ofGod would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with yourcareful observation, 21 nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' becausethe kingdom of God is within you."

When we see Mat 13:44 in context with Luk 17:21, Jesus says, Man isthe field and the treasure which is the kingdom of God is within the field orwithin you.

Alright, this verse is important. And moreover, Jesus was speaking to a group

of Pharisees. We know that Jesus had an ongoing debate with some of those

people. But yet he said the kingdom is within you. So it appears that this

phrase applies to everyone. Kingdom of heaven is already within these

    Pharisees!

Gosh, this includes even the unbelievers?!?!

Everyone has this treasure within themselves, and its called a hidden treasure.

Jesus must be giving everyone the good news of a treasure which is hidden to

them, but is known by him. He must be there to show them how to find it!

You may think - Im starting to sound like one of those eastern new age

people. Better get yourself into a real Bible study in a hurry; youre really

slipping off the edge. Perhaps, if I go to a real Bible study and study the entire

word of God to put the gospels in proper context, I may understand it more

    clearly!

You may think, - this teaching is really out of the mainstream. These Bible

things have been studied for hundreds of years. Great scholars have done all

the work; the interpretation is finished. Youre nuts to think you can go in

there and figure the whole thing out on your own; its a foolish idea. Youll

need some help from the experts.

All these above questions arises just because, I showed what Jesus said The

kingdom of God is within you means even in an unbeliever.

Even Paul talks about the same thing in Col 1:26 - the mystery that has beenkept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. 27 Tothem God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious richesof this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Christ in you, the hope of glory is the mystery which already exist but

it was kept hidden so long (for ages and generations) but now it has been

revealed to the saints or to a real seeker!

In Matthew 4:23 said Jesus preached the gospel of the kingdom, and now in

Mat 6:33 He wants His followers to seek the kingdom of God first.

Well, the overall picture is that Jesus was sent to preach the gospelof the kingdom of God. When I checked out these gospels, this is

exactly what he was doing. It was his main theme. He was preaching

this gospel of the kingdom to just about everybody. He described the

kingdom as a treasure hidden in a field, and he went on to say that

    the kingdom is within you.

This is the gospel Jesus Christ was preaching, so this is the Gospel of

    Jesus Christ.

Matthew 6:14 -For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly

Father will also forgive you. Sarah, thats right here in the Sermon

on the Mount. So when we forgive others, God will forgive us; that

was easy. This is how forgiveness comes.

  • 8/2/2019 ''the Gospel'' That Jesus Preached!

    6/21

You asked how to be forgiven, and Jesus says in here that if we want

to be forgiven, we need to forgive others. If we forgive others, then

God will forgive us. So whats the problem?

This kind of forgiveness comes with mercy, and since we are talking

about God, it would be by the grace of God. So God forgives sinful

behavior through the mercy of God. And according to what Jesus is

saying here, this mercy comes when we forgive those who commit

crimes against us. If we forgive others, God will forgive us. God

extends his mercy to those who forgive others. See how it works?

    Word of God

Jesus used the phrase word of God with his own disciples (Luke

8:11). So the term is legitimate, but the way this term is being used isquestionable. Most experts feel comfortable saying that the Bible is

the word of God, but they dont agree on what the term actually

means. Some think it means that every word in the Bible comes

directly from God, and therefore every word in the Bible is of equal

importance to every other word. With that point of view, the letters of

Paul are elevated to a level equal to the words of Jesus. And with that

same logic, this group may go ahead and use the entire Bible as if it

is being spoken by the same person. Many people believe that theycan move about from one book to another and still remain in

    context.

I thought the first thing we had to do was to be saved from our sins. But

I just want to pay attention to what Jesus was teaching. Im simply

following his instructions. He said seek ye first the kingdom of God,

and he described the kingdom as a treasure, so Im after the

treasure. He said to do that first.

Lets see, 'kingdom of God.' Now since this is about God, and God is eternal, thiskingdom lasts forever. Eternal means once gained, it can never be lost. And not only

that, but I just learned yesterday that Gods kingdom will provide the earthly thingswe need as well as heavenly things. Its from the Sermon on the Mount.

Now, since Jesus was talking about worldly things, it means that this is something

we need to find right here on earth. This wasnt about the afterlife. This is something

  • 8/2/2019 ''the Gospel'' That Jesus Preached!

    7/21

we should be seeking right now. It covers the inner spiritual life, and the outer

material things we need as well. It takes care of everything. And once gained, these

    treasures can never be lost.

So if I gain both treasures, and they can never be lost, then I would have nothing to

worry about. Others may want to steal the treasure or remove it, but since it cannot be

lost, it will never be taken away or stolen. This means I will remain happy regardless

of what others try to do. Thats perfect security, and a secure person should find it

easy to forgive. Its the vulnerable people who have a hard time forgiving others.

They are anxious because they have never found the eternal treasure. On the other

hand, a person who is happy and secure finds it easy to forgive others. So there you

have it; this answers the question about forgiving others. If a person finds it difficult

to forgive, just go after the treasure first, and the problem of not being able to forgive

    will simply disappear.

Seek the kingdom of God first. Just find that treasure, and everything

    else will fall into place.

    Sacrifice:-

I was wondering about this idea of passing punishment on to the

innocent. Back in the old days, people bought lambs and doves to

have them sacrificed at the big temple. Want to know how Jesus felt

    about that?

Out of the thousands of verses in the Old Testament which speaksabout sacrifice of animals, Jesus picked out a negative.

Jesus quoted in Mat 9:13But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, notsacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." He is quoting from Hos 6:6

For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings. Whynot some other verse which talks about sacrifice?

Its from the Sermon on the Mount Mat 7:12So in everything, do to otherswhat you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Thats a famous verse. And gosh, this little statement is a summary of

the law and the prophets too! I just realized that I dont have

    to read those old books.

    Sacrifice for our Sins

Animals were being sacrificed at the temple in Jerusalem for peoples

sins. That side was promoting the idea that God wanted sacrifices for

the forgiveness of sins. But on the other hand, John was out by the

Jordan River preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of

sins. These two groups sure had different ideas on how sins are

forgiven. And it appears to me that Jesus very clearly connected

    himself to John.

    Jesus sacrificed for our sin?

People often quote this scripture and say that Jesus died for our sins.

John 3:16. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten

Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have

    everlasting life.

    But, where is the part about sacrifice? If you check the context;

this is the discussion with Nicodemus about being born again. This is

about the Spirit of God and the light of God.

The Holy Spirit is God. John was told that Jesus is coming to baptize

with the Holy Spirit--so it has something to do with bringing God to

the people. This early baptizing sounds important to me. What do youthink?

Page 65 -I dont know. Jesus had a name for this gift of God; he called itliving water. The term living has a nice sound to it. Hmmm, thismight be the treasure. -- Joh 4:10 Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift

of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and hewould have given you living water." --The context shows me that thewoman didnt know what Jesus was talking about. She thinks hemeant water from Jacobs Well. If we read in context, this gift ofGod is spiritual water. It cant be seen with the eyes. Living water isinvisible.

Gift of God is the living water and treasure is the Kingdom of God.

how does water help us in our everyday life?

Philip, I drink water when Im thirsty.Right, so water maintains our life when we drink it. What else does water do?

I clean with soap and water.

    John 3:16 Explained!

Then you may ask, what about John 3:16? It says, whoever believes in Gods only Sonhas eternal life!

Joh 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, thatwhoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

When we read it in context from John 3:15-21, it looks like JUST if we believe in

the name of Jesus, we are saved. But in fact Jesus did not say so, when we read all

the gospels in a whole and put it into context! This passage does not say that when

you JUST believe in the name of Jesus, you will be saved! To understand this passage

we need to understand all the teachings of Jesus in a whole as written in the 4

    gospels.

    ..

Jesus always emphasizing about the fact of Kingdom of God, Word of God and

knowing the truth than anything else!

    Lets see in detail,

Joh 8:31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to myteaching, you are really my disciples.32Then you will know the truth, and thetruth will set you free."

The above passage clearly states that it is NOT JUST by believing in Jesus but

by holding on to His teachings one will become His disciple.

In other translations hold to my teaching is translated as

remain in My word, abide in My word, keep my word, obeying what I have said, continue in my word, obey my

teaching, live by what I say, living out what I tell you, hold

    fast to my teaching etc

Jesus says, If you hold on to my TEACHINGS, then you will know the truth

and the TRUTH will set you free! He said much more than JUST believing in

  • 8/2/2019 ''the Gospel'' That Jesus Preached!

    13/21

Him! Just believing in His name does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! It is of NO use

at all unless you hold on to His teachings because only His teachings

contains TRUTH and only the truth will set you free!

If you say that all well, but you need to believe in Jesus name to be saved or

to have eternal life. Lets see what Jesus said,

Joh 5:23 -that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He whodoes not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.24"I tell youthe truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternallife and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

According to the above passage it is clear that, if you honor Jesus, you WILL

listen to his words. If you are not listening to His words but just believe in His

name then you do not have eternal life but be still condemned and remains

    in death!

    Lets see another passage

Joh 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not

perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the

world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned

already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has comeinto the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil

hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by thetruth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

Mat 12:33 "Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is

recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the

overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and

the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that men will have to give accounton the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and

by your words you will be condemned."

By seeing both the above passage in context, it is evident that by JUST

believing in the name of Jesus you DO NOT have eternal life and free from

condemnation, but by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be

condemned. Not JUST the name of Jesus which is the eligibility factor for being

acquitted and for being condemned, but it is the WORD.

So, what does it means when He says by your words? If we read the previous scriptures we can see

clearly that Jesus is emphasizing the fact that out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks and the

good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out ofthe evil stored up in him. So it means, if his heart is good, only good words comes out of

his mouth and if his heart is corrupt, only bad words comes out of his mouth. For

Jesus said, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

So if we see the above two passage in its totality it shows that Just by

believing in the name of Jesus you CANNOT be free from condemnation but

you should DO what Jesus says. Only if you DO what Jesus says, you will be

  • 8/2/2019 ''the Gospel'' That Jesus Preached!

    14/21

acquitted and free from condemnation! For Jesus said inJoh 17:17 (Father)

sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

Eternal Life is ONLY by believing in the Word of God -

EXPLAINED!Jesus often speaks symbolically either with parables or with examples. So, only whenwe read the scriptures with the mind of Jesus, then we can understand it exactly. Inorder to know what exactly Jesus meant when He said a particular truth, we need toread the entire gospels in its context as many of us say!

Lets start with,Mat 26:26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples,

saying, "Take and eat; this is my body." 27 Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them,

saying, "Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for

    the forgiveness of sins.

This passage is predominantly interpreted as if Jesus is literally talking about His own blood andflesh which He is gonna offer for the forgiveness of our sins on the cross. And every Christian thinks that

is the major purpose of why Jesus came to earth. But, that is NOT the truth! Lets deal with it

    little later

Now, in the above passage Jesus again speaks symbolically as usual and NOT literal as most of us think!

Eating His body and drinking His blood is nothing but feeding on the Word of God!

    Let me expound it...

Joh 6:48I am the bread of life.49Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. 50But here

is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die.51I am the living bread thatcame down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I

will give for the life of the world."52 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can

this man give us his flesh to eat?" 53 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of

the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my

blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.55For my flesh is real food and my blood is

real drink.56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.57Just as theliving Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of

me.58This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who

feeds on this bread will live forever."

Joh 6:60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?" 61 Awarethat his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, "Does this offend you?62What if you

see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!63The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.

Here, Jesus clearly explains that He is not asking them to literally eat His body anddrink His blood. So, what does it means? It means that Bread is nothing but the wordof God!How? by comparing these following two scripture,Joh 6:51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven.

Joh 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

  • 8/2/2019 ''the Gospel'' That Jesus Preached!

    15/21

So, Jesus is not asking them to literally eat His body and drink His blood but itis a symbolic way of saying you should take my Word and based on that youshould build your life just as how by eating bread you build your body! Thisis what He meant when He said inJoh 6:48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your forefathersate the manna in the desert, yet they died. 50 But here is the bread that comes downfrom heaven, which a man may eat and not die.

Again, if we read Jn 6:63 it is clearer. He says, the flesh counts for nothingandThewords I have spoken to you are spirit and they are lifeHere, Jesus is trying to clearand make them understand that He did not mean about His literal body and blood.

Thats why he said the flesh counts for nothingbut what He really meant was HisWords of TRUTH and they contains ETERNAL LIFE.The words I have spoken to youare spirit and they are life

In one more place Jesus is talking symbolically just the same as above.Joh 4:13 Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14butwhoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him willbecome in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Jesus said"Everyone who drinks this water (from the well) will be thirstyagain, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. The water which

Jesus gives is not literal water as thought by that Samaritan woman but it is the Wordof God which is the TRUTH! Jesus continued saying the water I give him will becomein him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

So now it is very clear that Jesus always says the eternal life is in the Wordof God and not in JUST believing Him alone! Where ever Jesus said, believein me or believe in my name to have eternal life is nothing but believing andalso doing the Word of God which he speaks and NOT by just believing inHis name.

Joh 6:68 Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words ofeternallife.

Believing the Word of God is eternal Life

Joh 5:37 And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You

have never heard his voice nor seen his form,

Joh 5:38 nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent.

Joh 6:27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life,

which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of

    approval."

Joh 12:47 "As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do

not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it.

Joh 12:49 For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me

commanded me what to say and how to say it.

Joh 12:50 I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just

what the Father has told me to say."

Dealing with - Joh 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life.

No one comes to the Father except through me.

Even Paul talks about the same thing in Col 1:26 the mystery that has beenkept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. 27 Tothem God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious richesof this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
