The God of Nothing

nothing (noun) - 1. a nonexistent thing

nil, nix, nada, null, aught, cypher, goose egg, naught, zero, zilch, zip,

no-thing

These Scripture verses reveal to us several significant things about

our relationship to God.

First, God is eternal. He was around with nothing for a long time before man every came into being. He knows a lot about what nothing is!

When He created the world, He created it from nothing because nothing

was what He had to work with. It only took His

Word and His Spirit to make a universe

“creatio ex hilio“creatio ex hilio““

If we have His Word If we have His Word and His Spirit, we and His Spirit, we have as much as have as much as existed when the existed when the

But when God got ready to create man, He made Him out of the dust

of the Earth. God became the original potter and we became His

first work of art

What becomes of the clay has as much to do with the clay, as with the potter that forms it. The clay

has to allow itself to be formed into a vessel.

It has to want to be turned from nothing into something!

Judas Iscariot was only 51 days from having his name forever

chiseled into the foundations of the New Jerusalem. 1,224 more hours

on the wheel and he would have made it.

Second, God is aware of everything. No thing happens in our life that

God is not aware of.

And things happen because we are part of the natural world

as well as the spiritual.

The Bible teaches The Bible teaches that God that God

understands where understands where we are. No thing we are. No thing

1 Corinthians 10:13There hath no temptation

taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer

you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way

to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

In other words, there are things that happen to us because we are

human

• Birth

• Death

• Relationships

• Sickness

• Work

• Hunger

• Weariness

• Frustration

• Anger

Romans 8:28-2928 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are

the called according to his purpose.

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be

conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the

firstborn among many brethren.

Third, It reveals that the things that are most important

are the things things that are

eternal, not temporal

2 Corinthians 4:17-18For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight

of glory;

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are

eternal.

We have a tendency to We have a tendency to interpret everything in interpret everything in

life in terms of the life in terms of the immediate- the “right immediate- the “right

now”now”

God looks at the big picture that is hard for us

to see

Isaiah 55:8-9

88 For my thoughts are not For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your thoughts, neither are

99 For as the heavens are For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your my ways higher than your

It’s because God thinks in God thinks in terms of eternity, terms of eternity, while we think in while we think in terms of the here terms of the here and nowand now

Hebrews 12:1111 Now no chastening for the

present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it

yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are

exercised thereby.

The word “afterward” comes from the Greek ‘husteron,’

meaning eventually.

Finally, with God, Finally, with God, it is impossible for it is impossible for

Whenever Jesus came around, something

ALWAYS happened!

When you are When you are down to down to

nothing, God is nothing, God is up to up to

something!something!
