Transcript of The Glen Dale Good News - Glen Dale United Methodist Church€¦ · Children’s sermon 8, Issue 24...
As promised, we continue looking at Christian discipleship. Today we examine the “call to discipleship.” The call to discipleship from Jesus is direct and it usually catches us unaware. We begin the Christian life by accepting the gift of God’s salvation. We know the joy of God’s forgiveness and reconciliation and the peace of walking with Christ day by day. No detail of our lives is too large or too small to place in the hands of God. But the call of this carpenter from Nazareth arrests our enjoyment of these spiritual benefits and brings us face to face with some obligations. The call is to become one of his disciples and, the more we learn of Jesus, his invitation to discipleship leaves nothing in doubt, yet
everything open. Perhaps the author of Hebrews might be distinguishing between salvation and answering the call to discipleship when he writes: Although you should have been teachers by now, you need someone to teach you the basics about God’s message. You have come to the place where you need milk instead of solid
food…But solid food is for the mature, whose senses are trained by practice to distinguish between good and evil (Hebrews 5:12, 14, CEB).

LITERACY CAMP HOUSE OF CARPENTER: Literacy Camp returns July 23 thru July 27 at the House of the Carpenter. This five-day event runs from 8:15 am thru 12 pm Monday-Friday. This is a fun educational time where children 6 years old to 12 years old can have hands on learning. We bring history, science, the environment and so much more up close and personal to the kids. We also build in time for kids to choose a book that they will keep and take home. They then read with adults and teen mentors. Children will also receive breakfast and lunch every day. There are many places to volunteer with this program: if you or your church would like to make breakfast and lunch for the kids, if you would like to volunteer to read with the children, please contact Michelle at (304) 233-4640. We also like to have teen mentors for the students. These mentors can help younger children with experiments as well as help with reading.
