As we were saying last week: The Fruit of the Spirit puts on display the divine characteristics of God which are continually produced and grown by the indwelling Holy Spirit in a person.

The Fruit of the Spirit is a sign of holiness, the bible clearly says “By their fruit you shall know them”.

The Fruit of the Spirit is the divine result of the vine allowing its sap flowing into the branches and holding the cluster of grapes .

OVERVIEW

Page 5: The gifts of god

The nature of the fruit is the nature of the Spirit within an individual.

The Gifts are Manifestations, signs of the Spirit’s presence in God’s people. The Gifts of the Spirit are given to us so we can use them to ministers to others, and in doing so we will be helping in producing the Fruit of the Spirit.

The gifts are not a sign of holiness. “ For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” (Rom 11:29);

“By their fruit you shall know them”. (Matt7:16)

OVERVIEW

Page 6: The gifts of god

James 1:17New King James Version (NKJV)

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

John 4:10Amplified Bible (AMP) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew [about] God’s gift [of eternal life], and who it is who says, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him[instead], and He would have given you living water (eternal life).”

GOD’S GIFT OF THE SON HIMSELF

Page 10: The gifts of god

Acts 8:18-20Amplified Bible (AMP) 18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me this authority and power too, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” 20 But Peter said to him, “May your money be destroyed along with you, because you thought you could buy the [free] gift of God with money!

GOD’S GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Romans 6:23Amplified Bible (AMP) 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God [that is, His remarkable, overwhelming gift of grace to believers] is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GOD’S GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE

Page 12: The gifts of god

1 Corinthians 7:7Amplified Bible (AMP) 7 I wish that all the people were as I am; but each person has his own gift from God, one of this kind and one of that.

Page 13: The gifts of god

Ephesians 2:8Amplified Bible (AMP) 8 For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God;

GOD’S GIFT OF SALVATION THROUGH FAITH

Page 14: The gifts of god

2 Timothy 1:6-7Amplified Bible (AMP) 6 That is why I remind you to [a]fan into flame the

gracious gift of God, [that inner fire—the special endowment] which is in you through the laying on of my hands [with those of the elders at your ordination]. 7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].

GOD’S GIFT OF A SPIRIT OF POWER, AND OF LOVE AND OF SOUND JUDGEMENT.

6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching;8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

ROMANS 12:6-8 (NKJV)

Page 17: The gifts of god

To speak with foresight and insight, To demonstrate moral boldness. To influence others with a positive spirit.

In here the focus is in general, characterized by that level of the prophetic gift which would belong to every believer “All flesh”

TEACHING

Page 20: The gifts of god

Literally means to call aside for the purpose to make an appeal.

In a broader sense it means to entreat, comfort, or instruct.

Hebrews 10:25New King James Version (NKJV) 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,

as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

EXHORTATION

Page 21: The gifts of god

The essential meaning is to give out of a spirit of generosity.

In a more technical sense it refers to those with resources aiding those without such resources.

This gift is to be exercised without outward show or pride and with liberality.

2 Corinthians 8:2New King James Version (NKJV) 2 that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and

their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality.

GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Page 25: The gifts of god

4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.

6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:

1 CORINTHIANS 12:4-7 (NKJV)

Page 26: The gifts of god

8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

1 CORINTHIANS 12:8-10 (NKJV)

Page 27: The gifts of god

11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

1 CORINTHIANS 12:11(NKJV)

Page 28: The gifts of god

1 Peter 4:10 (NKJV) 10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

They are to minister them to others!

SO WHAT DO WE DO WITH THESE GIFTS?

Page 29: The gifts of god

For our discussion of these gifts we’ll divide them by groups

Vocal gifts. Revelation gifts. Power (Visible) gifts.

Page 30: The gifts of god

Romans 8:26 (NKJV) 26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses.

For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us[a] with groaning which cannot be uttered.

1 Corinthians 14:2 (NKJV) 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to

men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

VOCAL GIFTS: POWER TO SPEAKTONGUES. PRIVATE PRAYER TONGUES.

Page 31: The gifts of god

1 Corinthians 14:4 (NKJV) 4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who

prophesies edifies the church.

Does not require interpretation. Short expressions of praise, thanksgiving, surprise.

The Holy Spirit gives it to everyone that desires it.

PRIVATE PRAYER TONGUES.

Page 32: The gifts of god

It releases God message to the Community. Given to the one with this gift, to release a message in an unknown language.

Needs to be followed by interpretation. 1 Corinthians 14:27-28 (NKJV) 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the

most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God.

VOCAL GIFTS: POWER TO SPEAKTONGUES. TONGUES FOR THE COMMUNITY.

Page 33: The gifts of god

This gift enables an individual to verbally reveal to the assembly, the general meaning of whatever was said aloud in the gift of  tongues.

See 1 Corinthians 14:1-17.

VOCAL GIFTS: POWER TO SPEAKINTERPRETATION OF TONGUES.

Page 34: The gifts of god

1 Corinthians 14:32New King James Version (NKJV) 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the

prophets.

A message from God spoken forth at “will” by the speaker.

To give God’s message to His people. It may be for an individual, a group of individuals or for the whole community.

VOCAL GIFTS: POWER TO SPEAKPROPHECY

Page 35: The gifts of god

Divine inspired and anointed utterance. Supernatural proclamation in a known language. Manifestation of the Spirit of God, not of the intellect. May be possessed and operated by all who have the

infilling of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 14:31) Intellect, faith and will are operative in this gift, but its

exercise is not intellectually based. It is calling forth words from the Spirit of God.

can release insight both for the individual and for the community about the things God wants to reveal:

PROPHECY

Page 36: The gifts of god

Amos 3:7.  “Indeed, the Lord God does nothing without revealing it to his servants, the prophets.

It’s not a form of fortune telling, which is not a gift from God.

It will help us to live our lives in accordance with God’s will, in accordance with His word.

It will help us to be His witnesses.   Prophecy will encourage the Church.

PROPHECY

Page 37: The gifts of god

Supernatural revelation of the divine will and plan. Supernatural insight or understanding of

circumstance of a body of facts by revelation: that is, without assistance of any human resource but solely by divine aid.

Implies a deeper and more advanced understanding of the communicated acts of God.

It is a gift that enables one to understand in the Spirit something with the aim to teach or inform to others.

REVELATION GIFTS: POWER TO KNOWWORD OF KNOWLEDGE

Page 38: The gifts of god

It illuminates what is already known, so then both the speaker and the listeners are conscious of the anointing of the Holy Spirit in the place.

It enables the teacher to speak the word of God with unchanging sharpness into contemporary situations.

When teaching is anointed, we become conscious of an enlightenment which is beyond our natural ability to give or to receive.

It is at such times that the sheep hear the Shephard speaking through human lips.

WORD OF KNOWLEDGE

Page 39: The gifts of god

Knowledge is the basic material that Wisdom uses. Wisdom knowledge and discerning of spirits go hand in hand.

It enables a person to use God’s wisdom in handling or reacting to a situation, or to silence an opponent.

It is the right word in times of a given emergency. It is Supernatural perspective to ascertain the divine

means for accomplishing God’s will in given situations.

Divinely given power to appropriate spiritual intuition in problem solving.

REVELATION GIFTS: POWER TO KNOWWORD OF WISDOM

Page 40: The gifts of god

Examples of its use:

I Kings 3:16-28, King Solomon, a bay dead and another alive and the two women who claimed to be the mother of the same baby.

Luke 18:22 Jesus advising the rich young man to sell all that he had in order to follow Him.

Matthew 22:21, Jesus silences opponents when he instructs them to “render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s and to God that which is God’s.”

WORD OF WISDOM

Page 41: The gifts of god

It can be manifested when giving advice in a one to one situation, or in a collective circumstance.

The word does not come all at once, but it will gradually emerge while we are counselling, preaching, teaching or simply speaking.

The Lord will inspire what to say to a person and it will be exactly what that person needs to hear.

Sense of divine direction. Led by the Holy Spirit to act appropriately in a

given situation.

WORD OF WISDOM

Page 42: The gifts of god

It is not human insight (that’s human wisdom). It is not critical in nature. It has to do with spirits not with men, never mind

their action. It is for discovering what spirit motivates a person

in a given situation: – The Holy Spirit – The human spirit – An evil spirit?

It is a defense against deception because it enables us to detect the activity of evil.

REVELATION GIFTS: POWER TO KNOWDISCERNING OF SPIRITS

Page 43: The gifts of god

This gift is very important for leaders of prayer groups and home groups because it enables them to discern whether the Charismatic manifestations at a prayer meeting are from God, from the human spirit or from an evil spirit.

It is a very important gift for people baptized in the Holy Spirit.

It is very important to keep in mind that we must never rely only on our own discernment in any situation, but must  always seek the discernment of the body of believers.

DISCERNING OF SPIRITS.

Page 44: The gifts of god

This gift is proof of God’s protection for his church. He doesn’t want his people who are bought by the

precious blood of Jesus, to become easy prey to the enemy.

Discerning of Spirits is not for been voiced, it’s to be used in a reserved way.

It is offensive in the sense that once an evil spirit is detected operating through a human channel, that person can be set free immediately.

DISCERNING OF SPIRITS.

Page 45: The gifts of god

It is not the general faith or faithfulness, but it is the faith that is given any person in certain situations where the individual knows with certainty that what he or she is praying for or hoping for will come to pass, even when the evidence may be pointing the contrary.

Hebrews 11:1 11 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Acts 3:6 – Peter was given the gift of faith that the lame man would be healed and he acted on that faith.  The lame man was given the faith to believe that he would be healed.

John 11:4-42 – Jesus’ ministry was filled with power of faith. His prayer at raising Lazarus from the dead is filled with confidence.

VISIBLE GIFTS: POWER TO DOFAITH

Page 46: The gifts of god

Supernatural ability to believe God without doubt.

Supernatural ability to combat unbelief. Supernatural ability to meet adverse

circumstances with trust in God’s messages and words.

Inner conviction impelled by an urgent and higher calling.

VISIBLE GIFTS: POWER TO DOFAITH

Page 47: The gifts of god

This gift is not permanent or something the person can activate at will, it is given by God in certain situations and we cannot expect its presence in every case where a healing is needed.

One can yield to this gift by a life of prayer and reading the Scriptures.

Romans 10:17 “Faith comes from hearing (or studying) the Word”.

VISIBLE GIFTS: POWER TO DOFAITH

Page 48: The gifts of god

Refers to supernatural healing without human aid. Does not discount the use of God’s creative gifts. Can be obtained by the application of medical

assistance as surgery or treatment with medicine. Jesus and the Apostles were constantly showing

that healing is a tangible proof of God’s presence in the midst of his people.

Old Testament examples of healings were the healing of Hezekiah (2 Kings 20) and the healing of Miriam (Numbers 12: 9-16)

VISIBLE GIFTS: POWER TO DOHEALING

Page 49: The gifts of god

Supernatural power from God to intervene and counteract and defeat earthly and evil forces.

Literally means a display of power giving the ability to go beyond the natural.

Operates closely with the gifts of faith and healing to bring authority over sin, satan, sickness and the binding forces of this age.

Miracles are meant to show the power and mercy of almighty God. Miracles are present when God’s word is preached and lived, but they can occur anywhere and at any time, and even to unsaved people.

VISIBLE GIFTS: POWER TO DOMIRACLES

Page 50: The gifts of god

Examples of the Apostle’s power of miracles are: Deaths of Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5: 1-10) Miracles of Philip in Samaria (Acts 8:6) (They paid

attention.) Peter heals Aeneas (paralytic) Acts 9:33-35 Peter raises Dorcas Acts 9:40-43, “Tabitha, get

up.” Raising of Eutychus from the dead (Acts 20:10) Paul’s safety after being bitten by the snake

(Acts 28:5)

GIFTS OF THE SON

Page 52: The gifts of god

11 And [His gifts to the church were varied and] He Himself appointed some as apostles [special messengers, representatives], some as prophets [who speak a new message from God to the people], some as evangelists [who spread the good news of salvation], and some as pastors and teachers [to shepherd and guide and instruct],

EPHESIANS 4:11 (AMP)

Page 53: The gifts of god

12 [and He did this] to fully equip and perfect the saints (God’s people) for works of service, to build up the body of Christ [the church]; 13 until we all reach oneness in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, [growing spiritually] to become a mature believer, reaching to the measure of the fullness of Christ [manifesting His spiritual completeness and exercising our spiritual gifts in unity].

This is the reason why He gave us these gifts.

EPHESIANS 4:12-13 (AMP)

Page 54: The gifts of god

In apostolic days it was referred to a select group chosen to carry out directly the ministry of Christ; a few of them were given the assignment to write down what eventually would be known as the New Testament.

It is a role of broader leadership given by Christ. Functions as a messenger or spokesman of God. In contemporary times refers to those who plant churches,

train people, nominate pastors and elders an move to create new churches somewhere else, they will have an overseeing circuit to visit these churches and evaluate their grow, and teach on the areas that are needed. There aim is to expand the Kingdom of Heaven.

APOSTLES

Page 55: The gifts of god

A spiritually mature spokesman or proclaimer with a especial, divinely focused message to the church or the world.

A person uniquely gifted at times with insight into future events.

PROPHET

Page 56: The gifts of god

Refers primarily to a special gift of preaching or witnessing in a way that brings unbelievers into the experience of salvation.

Functionally the gift of evangelist operates for the establishment of new works, while pastors and teachers follow up to organize and sustain.

Essentially the gift of evangelist operates to stablish converts and to gather them spiritually and literally into the body of Christ.

EVANGELIST

Page 57: The gifts of god

The word “pastor” comes from a root meaning “to protect”, from which we got the word “shepherd”.

Implies the function of a shepherd/leader to nurture, teach, and care for the spiritual needs of the body.

PASTORS AND TEACHERS

Page 58: The gifts of god

Some people see “apostle” or “evangelist” in this light.

Implies the unfolding of a plan for making the gospel known to all the world (Romans 1:16)

Illustrates an attitude of humility necessary for receiving a call to remote areas and unknown situations. (Isaiah 6:1-13)

Connotes an inner compulsion to lead the whole world to an understanding of Jesus Christ. (2 Cor. 5:14-20)
