The History of Golf
The history of golf is a debate as to whether the game was invented by the
Chinese, the Dutch, or the Scottish. A game somewhat similar to golf was
first mentioned in Dongxuan Records which is a Chinese book of the
Eleventh Century. It was also mentioned in the year 1297 in the
Netherlands where the Dutch played a game with a stick and a leather ball.
Whoever hit the ball in a target several hundreds of meters away the least
number of times, won.
However, the Scots are generally adamant that the game of golf was a
Scottish invention on St. Andrews golf course. The name “golf” is a
derivative of the Dutch word “kolf” however, so as for who really invented
the game, we say who really cares!
It really doesn’t matter who actually invented the game, but what does
matter is how the history of golf has evolved over the years. Golf courses
have not always had eighteen holes. St. Andrews began with eleven holes
dictated by the topography of the land the course was located on. Players
would play the eleven holes out and then back in to total 22 holes. Later,
several of the holes were deemed too short and were combined with each
other. That reduced the number from 11 down to 9 so a complete round of
golf was comprised of 18 holes.
By 1744, the game of golf had become wildly popular. So much so that a
group of men called Gentlemen Golfers decided that a set of rules must be
laid out for fair play. They came up with a list of thirteen guidelines on
playing the game.
Major changes since the 19th century have occurred in the equipment
needed for play. Better mowers made greens easier to play on. Golf balls
designs would evolve by using rubber and man-made materials which
made the ball fly longer on a drive. The wooden golf tee would make the
drive easier.
No discussion of golf history would be complete without talking about the
advances made in golf clubs. Metal shafts came about in the 1930s and
most drivers were made of wood which is why they are called woods
today even though they are most commonly made these days of metal or
titanium. The golf shaft design has also gravitated towards graphite which
is lighter and makes the club easier to swing.
When referring to the history of golf, we can debate exactly where the
game originated, but the game of golf as we know it today, most certainly
came about in Scotland. Even if we’re wrong, we do still have this
wonderful game – and most of us are very glad about that!

A Basic Introduction to the Game
Overview
Golf has seen an incredible rise in popularity over the past few decades,
and that popularity continues to grow.
From the days when golf was consider the pastime of a select few old folks
who walked the greens in their checked pants,
the sport today has a tremendous following. This can largely be attributed
to players like Tiger Woods – charismatic players with great golf swings.
who have captured the attention of everyone, including those who have
never picked up a golf club.
The golfing industry had changed significantly as well. There are resorts,
vacation packages and even housing developments
built around incredible golf courses. Finding a great place to golf has never
been easier with the number of courses growing
annually, and those managing the courses set to make the most of the
property available. There’s no way to really tell what
prompted the rising popularity of the sport. But if you look at the number
of young people walking the greens with parents
and grandparents, and the number of schools with a golf program for their
students, you’ll see that golf is most likely a
trend the popularity of which will continue for the foreseeable future.

Explanation of Golf Terms
There are numerous golf terms that are used in almost every game that is
played, yet often it is virtually impossible for someone who is new to golf
or just does not understand golf to understand the terminology. Some of
the most popular terms are listed below to ensure that you know exactly
what is being said while you are out on the green. Of course, this list is not
absolute, but this list will help you get started successfully.
Back Nine – This is the last set of 9 holes that are on the golf course. This is
determined by the order that the course is played in. For example, if you
start playing on hole 1, the back nine would refer to holes 10-18. However
if you started playing on the 10th hole it would actually refer to holes 1-9.
Birdie – This is when a score for a particular hole comes in one stroke
below par for the particular hole that is being played. This means if the
hole being played is a par -3 then the score must be a 2, if the hole is a par -
5 it must be a score of 4.
Bogey – This is a score that comes in a single point over the par. For
example, if you are playing a par -3 hole then a score of 4 would be a
bogey. In going further, anything that was a par -5 would need a score of 6
to be a bogey. This is just an example and is not restricted to only certain
pars.
Bunker – This is what is created as a depression in the ground that is
generally filled in with sand, which provides a greenside hazard that needs
to be avoided. While the bunker typically shows up in the greenside, it is
possible for them to also along the fairways or even beside the fairways.
Green – This is what the very end of a hole is call where the flagstick is
located. This is typically, where you will putt out the rest of the hole. The
shape can vary, however most are either oblong or oval shape.
Handicap – This is an indication of the overall playing ability that a player
has. It is generally compiled based upon the last several scores that have
been played as well as the course rating and the slop ratings that
accompany the courses that were played. Generally, someone who has a
typical average of 10 over par will have a slightly better handicap. In terms
of handicaps, someone with a 2 is better than someone with a 3 or higher
handicap.
Hole – This is the exact area where the flagstick resides to mark the exact
location of the hole on the green. In addition it is also often referred to as
the as the specific hole on a course – for example a golf course typically has
18 holes.
Over par – This is the term used to describe any score that comes over the
par for the course or even the individual hole. An example would be a
score that was 5 on a hole that was a par -4. This would result in an over
par. However, while this can refer to just a specific hole it can also refer to
the entire course as a hole as well.
Par – This is considered the expected number of strokes in which it takes to
actually sink the ball. To determine the par you should take at least 2 for
putts, then add strokes based upon the length of the green. Very long
greens will require higher values. A very long green would allow a par of
5 for example, while a short green would only allow a par 3. The par
number is generally added both for the individual hole as well as for the
entire golf course as well. This allows players to see exactly what they are
looking at distance wise before they even begin playing.

Beginners Basics I
The popularity of golf has increased tremendously over the past forty five
years, giving us champions like Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, and Tiger
Woods, and world-renowned courses like Pinehurst, Augusta
National and the Blue Monster at Doral.
Why has golf become so popular? It’s the opportunity to be outside, to get
a good whole body workout, network with friends or business colleagues
at a leisurely pace, and to play a game that you can never perfect.
Your scorecard, over time, shows your improvement,
which keeps you playing again and again.
Here is a very basic lesson in golf for the person who has no clue about the
game.
Golf is played on an eighteen-hole course; each hole has its "par", which is
the number of tee shots (drives), fairway shots, chips (short hits as you
approach the green), and putts.
The par number is based on the length and difficulty
of the hole. Pars range from 3 to 6. If you get the ball in the hole in five
shots on a par five hole, you "made par." If it took you six shots, it’s called a
bogie, if you made it in four, it’s a birdie.
There are usually "hazards" of some sort on all the holes. Bodies of water,
sand traps, and trees are strategically placed to make the hole more
challenging. Beginner golfers should seek to find courses to play that are
easier to play, with fewer hazards.
Each player keeps their own score, marking the number of total number of
shots for each hole. At the end, each person adds their scores-the lowest
number is the winner.
It is important for beginner golfers to not take themselves too seriously. It
takes a long time to get good at this game; even though the professionals
make it look so easy.
Take a lesson or two at the onset; it will help you develop a proper swing
and help you get off to a good start.
Remember that it’s just a game. Have fun and look at the big picture-you’re
outside and you’re not at work!

Beginners Basics II
What to keep in your golf bag.
There are many golf bags available, some designed for fashion, some for
utility and some that combine both features. There are big bags, bigger
bags and bags so big that they would keep everything I need for a
longweekend vacation in one of the side pockets!
Generally speaking, you need a bag just large enough to hold your clubs,
extra balls, your glove, tees, car keys, extra pencils, ball markers, a ball
retriever, sunscreen, a windbreaker and a large umbrella.
It is also a good idea to have a packet of tissues, a band-aid or two, and if
you play courses where insects are a problem, a can of bug repellent comes
in very handy.
A small pack of baby wipes come in very handy; in your bag they get
warmed by the heat, so when you get sweaty or a sand trap covered you
with sand, a nice warm wipe can be very refreshing.
I happen to be allergic to bees, hornets and wasps, so my Epipen is an
important addition to my bag. I am also hypoglycemic so I carry
Lifesavers, which has to be replaced several times throughout the year
because they tend to melt.
One item that doesn’t need to be in your golf bag is your cell phone. If you
must carry it, turn off the ringer as a courtesy to other players. If you must
use it, be aware of others who might be taking a swing or putting their ball.
Be considerate!
Having these items in your golf bag should provide everything you will
need, even in a minor emergency (like a blister) or a major inconvenience,
like a sudden rainstorm. Being prepared makes the game a great deal more
fun.

Beginners Basics III
The Long Game
The long game refers to your drives (shots off the tee) and fairway shots;
everything short of the shots you make to get onto the green.
Each hole has a different difficulty level, different par and distinctive
hazards, so instructing you to use your Driver on every tee would be
blatantly wrong.
This is something you will learn over time as you learn the various shots
you make according to the club, the placement of the ball and your
personal swing.
Generally speaking, the lower the club number, the longer and lower your
ball will go. A 4-iron shot will travel long and low and will most likely roll,
whereas a 9-iron shot will have much more loft and go less
distance both in the air and on the ground.
The professionals on television make it look so easy; they consistently hit
the ball long and straight and never miss-hit the ball making it dribble ten
feet, or completely miss the ball.
Driving is very important to the game, and many hours spent at the
driving range will help improve your
distance. Experiment with the same club to see what works for you if you
move the ball forward or backward in your stance. Take a lesson, if
possible, and learn the proper swing from the beginning.
Mastering the long game helps you get to the green in fewer strokes,
keeping your score and frustration level down. Remember that it takes a
long time to learn consistency and remember to have fun!

What's Golf Etiquette?
Golf is a dignified game of rules and manners, and it’s important to know
the basics before you play for the first time.
The Simple Golf Swing
Whether you are playing alone, in a twosome or a foursome, you must wait
your turn. You must keep aware of the group on the next hole and wait
until they are well ahead of you before hitting your ball.
It’s never cool to "push" the group in front of you.
If you are playing with others, wait for your turn to hit the ball; never hit at
the same time as another player.
While you wait for your turn, go to your ball and determine what club
you’ll need and how you are going to hit it. This is called "ready golf" and
keeps the game moving. Don’t rush, just be ready.
If your team is holding up the players behind you, let them play through.
You would simply wave them through, or if they are close enough, ask
them if they’d like to play through. You will never make an enemy in
doing this!
When someone is making a shot, you should be behind them and you
shouldn’t make a sound! It is so distracting to be ready to tee off and just as
you pull back, someone decides to jingle in coins in their pocket or noisily
unwrap a piece of candy.
Replace your divots. When, in the fairway, you hit the ball and a clod of
dirt and grass goes flying, replace it. On some courses you just put the clod
back and step on it to press it on; on most courses, there is a sand/seed
mixture on your card to put into the divot.
If your ball makes a deep impression when it lands on the green, use your
divot tool to repair it.
As soon as you have completed a hole, replace the flag and leave the green
so that the next players can play.
Count your score and write it on the scorecard when you’re back at your
cart.
Of course, there are many more rules of golf, but these simple ones will
enable you to get through the course without coming to blows with
anyone. We must all keep the game dignified, right?

Golf Club selection
Wilson Golf Set Best Deals
Your golf clubs can really make a difference in how well you play the game
of golf. New advancements in golf club technologies make lighter, bigger,
and better golf clubs available to the experienced as well as inexperienced
golfer. How do you know what to look for in golf clubs?
For the novice golfer, the basic set of golf clubs consists of drivers, wedges,
putters and irons. Using the proper type of golf club will help the beginner
learn quickly and achieve results. Each different type of club is designed to
help with swing speed and to correct faults to improve your game – and
your score.
You must take into consideration the style, size, and type of material used
to make the golf club shaft. One of the less expensive materials is steel. Golf
clubs with a steel shaft weigh more but can be longer-lasting than other
types. The steel shaft may also give you more control over those fast
swings. If you choose a graphite shaft, it will be lighter than steel but will
be more costly. This type of club is used for long distance shots or for
slower swingers. Most golf clubs are available with both steel and
graphite shafts.
Keep in mind that graphite shafts will not only be lighter and easier to
handle, they will also be more forgiving if you have a bad shot. They
absorb vibration and allow for a much better feeling shot. Plus, you will
pick up some distance because the speed of the swing will be greater due
to the lighter materials.
The flexibility of a shaft is referred to as flex, or bend. The less the bend in a
shaft, the more control the powerful swinger will have. On the other hand,
beginners and those with less powerful swings generally use a shaft with
greater flexibility. The average swing speed is from 65 miles per hour for
the beginner up to over 100 miles per hour for powerful swingers.
When it comes to selecting a golf club driver, especially as a beginner, you
will probably want one with a head made out of titanium. Titanium is
stronger, denser, and lighter than steel so the club head can be made larger
with the same amount of materials. The advantage to having a large head
driver is there is a larger “sweet spot” giving you more area to hit the ball
with. With this type of golf club head, the club will be much more
forgiving if you miss hit the ball or have a bad shot.
The goal when buying golf clubs should be to own the best golf clubs you
can afford, whether they are name brands, used, or a reproduction of one
of the name brands.
Chapter 9
The Golf Grip
A good golf grip is essential to playing a good game of golf. If you are
gripping the club incorrectly or too hard, you will end up with shots that
go places you don’t want them to go. There is no one exact science to the
golf grip, but there are three basic golf grips that golfers use today:
The overlapping grip is the most common golf grip used. It is used mostly
by male golfers and those with strong wrists and forearms. The little finger
of the right hand lies on top of or overlaps the index finger on the left hand.
The baseball grip is most commonly used by younger golfers, females,
seniors, and those with weaker wrists and arms. The index finger of the
left hand and the little finger of the right hand meet but do not overlap or
interlock.
An interlocking grip will be used by golfers with shorter hands and
fingers, those with thicker or chunkier palms, and golfers who have
difficulty with the overlapping grip. The index finger of the left hand and
the little finger of the right hand overlap each other and interlock.
Here is the basic way to grip a golf club no matter which grip you use.
Start by holding the club directly in front of you with your right hand with
the club head pointing away from you at about a 45 degree angle.
Next grip the club with your left hand. The club will be mainly in the palm
across the pads at the base of the fingers. However, the club will lie across
the first section of the index finger. The thumb will be positioned straight
on top of the golf club shaft. Relative to the golf club, the thumb will be in
the twelve o’clock position.
Now, with your right hand, grip the golf club just above your left hand
with the fingers, not the palm, of your right hand. The thumb will be
positioned slightly off to the left. Relative to the golf club, the thumb will
be in an eleven o’clock position.
If you have gripped the golf club correctly, only the first two knuckles of
your left hand will be visible. Also, your left thumb should be completely
hidden under your right hand. The index finger position of your right
hand will look and feel like a gun trigger finger.
If your golf grip pressure is right, the club could almost be pulled out of
your hands, but not quite. A correct golf grip will make you feel as if you
are holding the club mostly in the palm and last three fingers of your left
hand. Regardless, both hands should hold the club with equal pressure. A
correct golf grip doesn’t guarantee a successful golf swing; however, a
defective golf grip will almost always result in a failed golf swing.

Golf Training Aids
Hitting Nets Get Best Deal Here
There are literally hundreds and hundreds of different golf training aids on
the market these days. Golfers will spend hundreds of dollars on the latest
golf gadgets in hopes for a better golf game. Do these golf training aids
work the way they are advertised? Perhaps.
There are more golf swing training aids now than ever before. They are
rampant and golfers chomp at the bit when a new one comes out. The only
problem is are they effective at curing your swing fault. Here are a couple
of golf swing training aids:
* The Medicus Golf Club is a swing trainer that is specific to many swing
faults and can give you immediate feedback. It has been around for a very
long time and has been endorsed by Davis Love III for many years.
* Golf swing plane training aids can specifically help you get a feel for the
proper swing plane for your body size. These also have stood the test of
time and are used on many driving ranges as a teaching tool.
Putting is no doubt one of the most important parts of the golf game.
That’s why another essential golf training aid that will benefit your golf
game is some type of putting trainer. There certainly many to choose from,
but pick one that specifically addresses your putting flaws.
* A putting track is a great golf training aid. This contraption helps keep
your putter in a straight motion and really can improve your putting skills
by giving stability to your putting stroke.
* Many people have seen golf putting mats, and they can be good training
aids for your putting game. These are just mats – usually made of astro
turf with holes or cups at the end that simulate a putting green. The golf
putting mat is a great way to work on your putting game in the cold
months when you can’t get on the course!
Finally, you may want to use a golf training aid to improve your golf swing
speed. There are also many of these out on the market, but keep in mind
that swing speed isn’t everything. A good, effective golf stroke is smooth
and calculated and doesn’t necessarily depend wholly on the speed of your
stroke so much as your form and strength.
There are many, many golf training aids available to help what’s ailing in
your golf game. Some of them really do help, but others prove ultimately
to be a waste of money as well as time when using them. Do some research
on golf training aids and choose wisely. Then, hopefully, watch your golf
game improve!

Golf Memberships
Most golf club offer memberships to players making them part of the club.
Having a membership in a golf club can be very advantageous both
monetarily as well as socially!
How To Break 80
A golf membership will give you access to certain things non-members
won’t have. Your greens fees may be reduced or, more often, included in
the membership. That means you can play as much as you want and not
have to pay greens fees. Most golf memberships don’t include the use of a
cart, so you’ll probably pay extra for that.
Having access to programs with your golf membership is another great
perk. That might mean reduced fees for league play, free entry into
tournaments, and access to the club’s facilities for other events like
meetings, dinners, and more.
There are a lot of golf courses that won’t let you play unless you have
membership with them. These are called private clubs and allow members
and their guests only to play. That means without a golf membership to
that club, you have to know someone who is a member in order to get on
the course.
Even small, public courses offer golf memberships. This is a great way for
them to generate more play as well as make some guaranteed money.
They will offer up some of the other advantages that private clubs do in the
form of free or reduced greens fees, etc.
FREE 1 Hour Golf Dvd
Sometimes, golf memberships can be quite steep. For example, one of this
author’s local golf clubs sets membership fees at $700 per year for a single
membership. The course is run by a Senior PGA pro and it is a beautiful
place to play. When you consider the amount of golfing we do, we have
paid for our membership in just a few weeks just by saving on greens fees
since we don’t pay to play as a member of the club.
When we speak of a golf membership, we can also refer to membership in
a golfing organization. You have to be a pro to join the PGA, but amateurs
can join amateur organizations. Most areas have regional golf
organizations where you can buy a membership to become part of them.
These associations often hold sanctioned tournaments and can really help
get your name known at least locally as a good golfer.
If you’re an avid golfer, you really should consider buying a membership
in your local golf club. It can be a very good move and can save you tons
and tons of money while allowing you to enjoy the game you love!

Chapter 12
Golf Driving Ranges
Many golf courses have driving ranges. These driving ranges are
instrumental in helping you improve your game, and you should use them
as much as you possibly can. Even though it’s called a driving range, you
can practice all of your golf shots on the range. By taking advantage of this
valuable tool offered by your golf course, you are sure to improve your
game.
In the game of golf, it’s essential to know how far you are able to hit your
clubs on a consistent basis. By taking advantage of the golf driving range,
you will get a great idea of how far your driver can go as well as your 9
iron. Once you know how far you can hit your clubs, you will be able to
practice some great course management skills when you are out on the
course.
Start out with a bucket of balls and your driver. Try out various stances
and see which ones help you drive the ball farther. Hit a lot of balls and
pay close attention to what works and what doesn’t. When you find a shot
you are pleased with, hit several more balls using that same technique to
see if it was just a fluke or if you can replicate it over and over again.
Then you should move to your fairway woods or your irons. Practice the
same technique with these clubs. You may have to buy another bucket – or
bag on some courses – of balls, but believe me, it will be well worth the
money when you are able to effectively know what clubs will give you the
yardage you need and want.
Many golf courses have lighted driving ranges, so even if you can’t play
the course, you can still work on your swing in the evening hours. Many
people find that having a lighted driving range can help them work on
their swing at inconvenient hours when daylight has left but they still feel
the desire to swing a club.
One point you need to keep in mind when on the golf driving range is that
you are playing in perfect conditions. There are no hills, there are no
hazards, and you are concentrating to the best of your ability. Just because
you can hit a 300 yard drive on the range doesn’t necessarily mean you can
do the same on the course.
However, you can certainly learn a lot about your golf game when you are
on the driving range. Don’t pass up the chance to practice as much as you
can. Practicing is best done on the golf driving range, so buy a bucket of
balls and whack away. You never know what you’ll find out!

Chapter 13
Should You Take Golf Lessons?
If you have ever looked lonely onto a golf course and wished that you were
capable of playing just as well as the professionals do, or if you have ever
found yourself watching television wishing you could play along with
them you may have the idea of golf lessons in your head. This is a sport
that almost anyone can play and is appropriate for all ages as well as
genders. There are professional levels, amateur levels, those who play for
only fun, and even those who are children that play together. Finding
someone to play with is generally not a problem, and still others choose to
play by themselves. Due to the incredible versatility that golf offers it is no
wonder why so many people look forward to learning to play golf.
The major drawback to learning golf can be the lessons. There are times
when it is difficult to find a good qualified instructor, and other times
when the lessons are not at convenient times and still other times when the
prices of lessons is so unaffordable that it is virtually impossible to arrange.
Yet if you are considering really trying to learn golf, it is important that you
invest in some good lessons. This is going to be one of the times where you
need to look for several golf instructors in order to have the best overall
results.
If you have started really thinking about learning golf taking lessons from a
professional instructor will allow you to get some key information and tips
about how to stand appropriately, swing the club appropriately and even
learn which clubs are best to be used and when. The information that an
instructor can give you in invaluable. Yet if you are just not certain about
using an instructor you are free to search the internet for tips, articles and
even videos that can give you advice and suggestions. Those who choose
to forgo the lessons with a good instructor usually find that they struggle
to really learn the basic concepts that are essential.
For children especially it is important to have lessons with an instructor at
least for a short period of time to learn the basics. Some of the more
advanced concepts can be learned after they have mastered the basics with
an instructor and just through practicing playing. This is a good way to
save money, however if you are dreaming about your child becoming the
next Tiger Woods it would be wise to continue lessons for a good while. If
you are an adult considering lessons you may want to pay for a few
sessions which would allow you to really get your basics established.
Once the basics are established, you do not have to worry quite so much
about taking lessons. However, if you are not working to build your skills
using well developed basic skills you are going to be looking at plenty of
frustration on the golf course as you try to troubleshoot for yourself what
you are doing wrong and why your ball is always going into the trees and
sandpits. There are plenty of golf courses located all around the world,
which gives you plenty of opportunities to find a good golf instructor to
work with.
Investing a bit of money into some good golf lessons will be very much
worth your time when you are trying to learn golf. The tips and

Online Golf Lessons
There are many different ways to achieve golf lessons, and many ways to
effectively acquire valuable lessons out there.
Among the many ways to learn lessons of golf, online golf lessons are one
of the fast effective ways to gain knowledge of
strategies and techniques. Improving your golf game while realizing your
best potential is one great reason to utilize online
golf lessons.
Finding the best website for online golf lessons is relatively simple.
Perhaps you have already established a comfortable,
user-friendly golf website and that site lends you access to online golf
lessons. If not, there are many reputable websites
from which to choose. Also there are varied means in which to utilize the
lessons offered.
Online golf lessons can include tips on how to improve specific aspects of
your golf game. Normally on most websites,
an overall generalization is provided so that you can see the broad scope of
golf. This occurs at first and as you gain more direct knowledge toward
where your particular golf game suffers you can find information that will
seem personalized.
There will also be valuable information about stance, follow through of an
effective swing and the finer points of swing
analysis. Online golf lessons can even include time and effort geared
toward the mental aspect of the game.
As we know golf is a competitive sport in which you are competing against
other golfer, the course and most importantly yourself.
In most case online golf lessons are offered on a non-paying basis and are
simply included in your favorite golf website.
In some cases you may find golf lessons that are presented in acrobat
reader formatting and are downloaded into your personal
computer at a minimal cost to you. Payment is made in a secure fashion
with a credit card.
One benefit from utilizing online golf lessons to improve your golf skills is
that you can experience the lessons at your
leisure. You can study and practice at your leisure and then too have the
lessons handy for reviewing when you forget
exactly what was being taught. Once you have improved your golf game
and see the results you were hoping to see it is
possible you will search for a more specific online lesson for your needs.
Chapter 15
A Golf Vacation
If you love golf, a golf vacation might be something that you like to do on a
regular basis. For the avid golfer, the thought of going on vacation where
you do nothing but golf is the idea of heaven. Here are a few things to
consider before you take your next golf vacation.
How To Break 80
First, it’s always good to go on vacation with people who share your love
of golf. Most often a golf vacation turns into a buddy trip, but there’s really
nothing wrong with that. But make sure that you pick a destination that
everyone can agree on. Take a vote if you must, but be sure everyone
wants to go to the same place and that everyone can afford it.
You will also want to take into consideration everyone’s playing abilities
when you plan a golf vacation. Someone with a 3 handicap will enjoy a
challenging course while a person with a 13 handicap will likely just get
frustrated and mad on the same course.
As a general rule when planning a golf vacation, you should consider the
courses first and the accommodations next. Resorts, especially those with
quality golf courses, are expensive. But all in all, if golf is a main purpose
or highlight of your trip, decide where you want to play first, and then
decide on accommodations. You can take a golf vacation where you stay at
a hotel to gain access to a course and then move to a less expensive hotel
later. It's an inconvenience to have to repack and move during the trip, but
can be well worth it in order to play top courses while not spending the
entire vacation at posh resort prices.
4 Magic Moves To Win At Golf
Even if you are staying at a resort hotel which gives you access to its
courses, find out how far ahead of your arrival date you can book tee times.
All courses have specific rules for when they will make tee times, which
you should take note of and follow carefully.
Some courses even have specific times you must call to reserve your time
(e.g., between 7 and 9 a.m. on the Thursday eight days before the weekend
you wish to play), though most guidelines are usually more general (e.g., a
week before you wish to play or up to sixty days ahead).
You should book as far as ahead as possible, especially for high demand
courses. Even as a resort guest, if the course is popular, you may be out of
luck if you wait until a few days before arrival or check-in time to get a tee
time .
The Simple Golf Swing
Once you’ve embarked on your golf vacation and are ready to play the
courses you’ve chosen, don’t just jump right in with the excitement that we
know you feel. You must take time to get a feel for the course and stretch
properly. Arrive at the course well before your tee time to avoid feeling
rushed and look around. Check out the scorecard to see the layout of the
course and perhaps talk to the course pro to see if he or she has any advice
for you.
A golf vacation is a great way for the golfer to enjoy some of the best
courses our country has to offer. So plan carefully and then get out there
and have some fun.
