What’s Happening Now

U.S. Soccer (the national governing body for Soccer in the USA) is bidding to host either the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World CupTM.

Kansas City has been short-listed from over 50 US cities bidding to be one of the final 18 in the USA bid.

The final 18 USA bid cities will be chosen in December of this year.

FIFA will select the Host Country for both the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World CupsTM in December of 2010.

Kansas City has a VERY GOOD chance to be named a final USA bid city and the USA has a VERY GOOD chance to to host either the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World CupTM.

Selection Process

U.S. Soccer began the almost two-year effort to host the FIFA World CupTM in early 2009. The process continues through December of 2010.

The selection process:• Apr, 2009 KC/Arrowhead 1 of 70 venues to submit its interest in bidding to U.S.

Soccer.• Jun, 2009 Kansas City selected to receive bid documents by U.S. Soccer.• Jul, 2009 Kansas City submitted its bid book to U.S. Soccer.• Aug, 2009 U.S. Soccer names Kansas City to short-list of 27 cities and 32 stadiums.• Nov, 2009 Short-listed cities make final presentations to U.S. Soccer.• Dec, 2009 U.S. Soccer selects 18 cities as U.S. Bid Cities.• May, 2010 U.S. Soccer submits bid to FIFA.• Aug, 2010 FIFA conducts inspection tours of all competing countries.• Dec, 2010 FIFA announces host countries for 2018 & 2022 FIFA World CupTM. • 5 years prior FIFA & Host Country select final host cities (2013 & 2017)
