I hope I do better than:

• Steve Ballmer (CEO Microsoft): “There’s no chance the Apple iPhone is going to get any significant market share. No chance”

• Decca Records: “The Beatles have no future. Groups are out; in particular four piece groups with guitars are finished”

• Phillip Franklin (Vice Pres White Star Line): “There is no danger that Titanic will sink. The boat is unsinkable”

• Upsides/Opportunities:• £12m per year made available by BIS For Growth Hubs in 16/17

and 17/18 • Further opportunities through Devolution – greater

“localisation” of business support funding• Possibility of additional European funding – future bidding

rounds• Midlands Engine? We’ll see………….

• Downsides/Threats• Loss of Growth Accelerator and MAS – can we replace it locally?

There’s More……………!

• The D2N2 Growth Hub of the future will:• Offer an expanded core enquiry and referral service dealing with a

growing number of businesses across the D2N2 area• Be recognised by all as being at the centre of the business support

infrastructure – the “go to” people for all businesses• Gain/win additional funding to allow the commissioning of further

business support services to meet local need (eg a replacement for

Growth Accelerator)• Hopefully my predictions will fare better than my earlier examples!
