2. Internet History 1969 U.S. ResearchProject Cold war CommunicationsNetwork http://blogs.tech- recipes.com/shamanstears/files/ 2008/09/gchrome_cachebox.pn g 3. http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/08/topsites2.jpg 4. Confusion How canwe predictthe future? Where dowe go fromhere? Is thereanything http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_locq0vYO hc1qh6ses.jpgwe can sayfor certain? 5. One thing wecan safelypredict! Room forimprovement 24th of 27 in theEU Average speeds10.62 mbps Rural areas hithardest 6. A National Broadband Plan for Ireland August 2012 Pat Rabitte T.D. 70Mbps - 100Mbps to more than half of thepopulation by 2015; At least 40Mbps, and in many cases muchfaster speeds, to at least a further 20% of thepopulation and potentially as much as 35%around smaller towns and villages A minimum of 30Mbps for every remaininghome and business in the country nomatter how rural or remote 7. http://hd.wallpaperswide.com/thumbs/speedometer_fast-t2.jpg All well and good Expect much faster Current record stands at 100 petabits per second! Thats 100 billion megabits per second!!!!! PirateBay will be overrun. 8. The Web is Dead, long live the Internet!http://www.wired.com/magazine/wp-content/images/18-09/ff_webrip_chart2.jpg 9. Theres an app for that! An article by Wired magazine suggeststhat usage of the open web is indecline. Instead of someone opening theirlaptop, searching Google and enteringvarious URLs they will instead use anapplication or piece of software whichwill get the job done much quicker. 10. Death to the Internet as we know it? Are we seeing a new type of Internet? Will this actually happen? Many experts predict it will, while others only partially dismiss the idea! http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/151/f/7/de ath_appeared_pic_funny_by_creepypasta81691- d51rphy.png 11. Newspapers arebecoming redundant. Why go to the shop, buy alarge newspaper whenyou can just download itto your computer from thecomfort of your home! Even television is beingharmed. YouTube and twitter aremaking news much moreeasy to access and theyare much more up todate! http://rlv.zcache.com/newspapers_dying_internet_card-p137270560628192801envwi_400.jpg 12. Its not only newspapers which are beingaffected. Game and record companies are beingseverely hit as well. Companies like Netflix are putting videorental stores out of business, while piracyon the internet is also causing stores likeHMV to shut shop. 13. With thedevelopment of theInternet, piracy isbecoming easier tocommit (somethingwhich most studentswont really mind) It is a serious problemthough as manystores will close in thefuture. How can theycompete whentheyre products are http://youtube.comavailable for freeonline? 14. While there are goods for which one hasto pay, piracy will always be present. I dont see it ceasing in the future of theInternet but it looks like some solution to itor compromise must by obtained Sites like the Pirate Bay are making itmore accessible and with theintroduction of magnet links slightly morelegal! 15. With the problem ofpiracy comes one ofits proposedsolutionsCensorship. However this has beenmet with muchopposition Bills such as SOPA andACTA have beenabolished but peoplewill always try toenforce some form ofcensorship. 16. Censorship will be in a constant strugglewith Internet opponents and activists. It is difficult to tell how far censorship willgo in the future 17. Will we live in a dystopian future where all of our actions andvoices are monitored? Big Brother? End of free speech!http://www.incpak.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/uncertain-future.jpg 18. Governments around the world are working on ways to makeInternet communications easier to monitor Costs are a fraction of what they were 10 years ago and arecontinuing to fall at an increased pace Soon governments will have the technology and money to monitorevery Facebook message sent or Skype call taken!http://falkvinge.net/files/2010/12/Big-Brother-Dystopia-480px1.jpg 19. The Internet has advanced so muchsince its conception How is it possible to realistically predicthow it will evolve from now on. The concepts of YouTube or Facebookdid not exist 20 years ago so what is yetto come may be something which wecant even possibly imagine Well just have to wait and see! 20.
