The Fund for Theological EducationSeeks Applications for 2007 Calling Congregations Grants

FTE Offers Funds to Congregations that Encourage Cultures of Call

ATLANTA, February 6, 2007 -- In its mission to support the next generation of leaders

for the church, The Fund for Theological Education (FTE) is inviting congregations to

submit grant proposals for programs intended to support the culture of call.

“Congregations are critical to the faith maturation and vocational discernment of young

people, and we want to encourage them to offer programs and activities that support this

process,” said Melissa Wiginton, FTE Vice President for Ministry Programs and Planning.

Grants range from $500 to $3,000 and support activities that:

Focus on youth and young adults in a specific local context, without isolating them

from the rest of the faith community;

Foster new efforts to explore vocation and the call to ministry, with the aim of expanding the congregation’s capacities;

Offer engagement over a significant period of time, rather than focusing on a single

event; and

Involve participants in theological reflection as well as activity.

Grants may also support activities that foster partnerships between the congregation

and campus ministries, theological schools, camps, denominational bodies, and other

congregations in strengthening the congregation’s capacity to nurture vocation and the

call to ministry.

Applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2007; applicants will receive written

notification of their grant status within six weeks. To apply, go to www.thefund.org.
