Who we are…

The Structure of the Federation and its 18 Associations

The Federation of Sports and Play Associations (FSPA) is the national trade body responsible for representing 18 associations in the sports and play industries.

As Europe’s largest trade body, the Federation is known as the voice of the UK sports and play industry, as its umbrella spans across four main sectors; Sport, Play, Golf and Angling.

Uniting industry the FSPA’s mission is:

"To work in partnership to represent and promote expertise on behalf of UK sports and play businesses“

The FSPA membership base consists of over 400 UK manufacturers, wholesalers, and distributors of sports and play equipment and apparel and includes some of the countries leading brands. This membership base contribute a collective £3.1bn turnover to the UK economy and employ some 15,000+ employees.

The FSPA has official status as a lobbying organisation in the EU parliament in Brussels, enabling it to have greater power than any private business, and as a not for profit

trade body it works for the good of the industry as a whole rather than any single private interest.

The FSPA also has Accredited Trade Organiser (ATO) status which enables the organisation to support and promote export opportunities for UK companies at overseas trade events. The Federation has strategic partnerships with Sport & Recreation Alliance, the Youth Sport Trust, Sport England, as well as open dialogue with DCMS and BIS Government departments. The FSPA also has an important partnership with the CSPN to facilitate the forging of mutually beneficial partnerships between CSP’s and FSPA members.

The FSPA is an active member of both the Federation of the European Play Industry (FEPI) and the Federation of European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) and works alongside UK partners such as National Governing Bodies, County Sports Partnerships, The Youth Sport Trust and various government departments and agencies.

The FSPA’s aims:

• To represent 18 associations across the sports and play sectors

• To act as the voice of the UK sports and play industries

• To liaise with UK Government and the EU Commission on all legislative issues directly affecting association members.

• To promote expertise on behalf of UK sports and play businesses

• To work in partnership with UK Government Partners, Governing Bodies and National Associations on behalf of member companies.

• To actively lobby government on matters affecting its associations and member companies as and before they arise in the UK

• To ensure it remains at the forefront of strategic thinking in Whitehall and Brussels as members of both FESI & FEPI
