Recruitment Chairman (Bradley Stimple, 2016) Hometown: Naperville, IL
Brothers,
My name is Bradley Stimple and I am currently serving as the Spring 2013
Recruitment Chairman for Phi Gamma Delta’s Mu Deuteron chapter. Originally from
Naperville, Illinois, I feel incredibly fortunate that during my first year on campus, I
have been able to get involved in great organizations including Phi Gamma Delta,
Alpha Kappa Psi and UI Dance Marathon.
I am working toward an Accounting degree and hopefully a second degree in an
undetermined field. While scholarship is a top priority, it goes hand in hand with
serving as Recruiting chair. Meeting new people both in the residence halls and in
class has allowed me to begin to develop a base of contacts to recruit new members
from. Thanks in part to the help of my fraternity brothers; we were able to recruit
seven wonderful new members for our Spring 2013 class. To me, this signals a great
start and an encouraging sign of things to come! I look forward to continue recruiting
members this spring as well as over the summer so we can hopefully have at least 7-
10 men with bids in their hands before formal recruitment even begins in the fall. As
part of that, the chapter is reaching out to you, the graduate brothers, for help. If you
know of young men that will be or are considering attending the UI in the fall, please
send us their contact information so we can see if they have what it takes to be a Phi
Gam! I look forward to a great rest of the semester and hope to continue to grow our
chapter in a positive manner, with the right individuals.
I am willing to answer any questions or concerns you may have and I encourage you
to contact me via email at [email protected]
A few words from our President (Nicholas Niemiec, 2015)
Hometown: Saint Charles, IL
Leaps and bounds have been taken this school year, and the Mu
Deuteron chapter now faces its most difficult task: recruitment. Building the size
of our chapter is essential, and one of the top priorities of our cabinet is to grow
a substantial amount by the time we travel to Fiji Academy in January of 2014.
Re-chartering in October was just the beginning, and since then we have set
ourselves up to be very successful as a growing chapter. Recruitment chair
Bradley Stimple has done an excellent job, and we now have seven pledges
seeking membership this semester. “Persistence and accountability” is our motto
this year, and this will play a role in our constant search for quality men as we
seek to grow 365 days a year. The undergraduates of the Mu Deuteron chapter
want to leave our mark, and do so by building a chapter that will be around for
generations to come.

Corrections and Calendar Changes:
Even Phi Gams Make mistakes, here is where we admit to them!
By Zach Alderman (2014)
Unfortunately due to budget and scheduling restrictions, we regret to inform the graduate brothers
that contrary to our prior newsletter, we will not be able to hold a Pig Dinner this semester. It is always
disappointing when a plan does not come together like it was supposed to, but it also provides an
opportunity for learning and growth. We believe this to be a lesson learned, and will strive to provide you
graduates with only the most up to date information with firm planning behind it. We look forward to
working with the graduate base on coordinating a successful Pig Dinner in the Coming school year.
A Focus on Recruitment:
New members don’t materialize out of thin air, they come from
knowing the right people.
By Zach Alderman (2014)
It cannot be stressed enough that recruitment is a group effort, both by the current undergraduate
chapter, as well as the graduate base. The formal rush system is great for getting people who know they
want to go Greek. That being said, many of the best candidates or membership may slip through the
cracks because they view formal rush as too strenuous or time consuming and don’t really know if they
will find a chapter that fits them. If you know of any young men that will be attending the University that
could be a great addition to our chapter, please contact Brad Stimple ([email protected]) with
their information and we will make sure to see if they could be the next great member of our chapter!
Fellow brothers,
My name is Calvin Stermer and as a freshman from Campbell, California, I serve
as the fraternity’s current Fundraising Chairman. Among my goals for this and the
following semester include the raising of at least $2,500. I am happy to report that I
am well on my way with $1,000 pledged thus far!
The money fundraised will go towards three different fraternity aspects: the
scholarship fund, recruitment effort, and the annual Norris Pig Dinner.
If you have absolutely any questions or comments regarding fraternal fundraising
efforts, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].

1982 UI Phi Gam helps kick-start Mu Deuteron
Alumni Rush Fund
By Tim Eliason (1982)
Highlights
The Mu Deuteron
chapter’s Fall 2012
grade point average was
2.8/4.0, placing them .3
of a percentage above
the University of Iowa
average.
During the 2013 Spring
Pledge Semester, 7 new
probationary members
were welcomed into the
chapter.
On Oct. 8, 2012, the Mu
Deuteron chapter re-
chartered at the UI, after
a four-year absence.
This year, we are
teaming up with Delta
Upsilon and Zeta Tau
Alpha for the 2013
University of Iowa Greek
Week festivities!
In celebration of UI Greek
Week 2013, the chapter
is collecting spare
change and canned food
items for the Penny Wars
and CANstruction
competitions
respectively.
Brothers, I’d like to share an example of Mu Deuteron alums working
together with the chapter to meet a critical goal. While at Pig Dinner last
year, I met the impressive members of what was then our Fiji colony
working toward chapter status. After giving a few of the brothers my best
Rush Chairman lean-in handshake and smile, we engaged in discussion
about the challenges of recruiting members without having the advantages
of being a chapter with a full house and a strong rush budget. I asked if I
could help, and they were open to whatever I could do. Thus began the
Mu Deuteron Alumni Rush Fund.
Working closely with the House Corporation and recruitment team, I began
a campaign to reach out to Iowa Fiji’s from my era to contribute to the fund
and strengthen our effort. Two great results: I re-connected with some
great friends, and together we raised over $5,000. The money is being
used to incent our new Recruitment Chairman, Brad Stimple, and his team
to meet an aggressive goal of 35 new pledges in 2013 while also covering
some event expenses. With funding comes responsibility, so we are
working closely with the chapter to map out a formal rush plan and budget
for success. With Brad’s leadership, and the critical alumni support, we
are on our way to meeting our goal. The house has six quality men in their
spring class, and has made recruitment an everyday priority for all
members. Mu Deuteron aims to have 10 more pledges signed by end of
summer, and 20 more during formal rush, which would compete with the
best fall classes on campus.
I’m proud to work with such a quality group of young men, and encourage
all of you to recommend great candidates to be part of our Iowa Fiji
tradition!
Perge!

FIJI Philanthropy Focus
Eighteen Mu Deuteron brothers set to partake in Relay for Life
By Quentin Misiag (2016)
As noted in our February newsletter, the current Spring 2013
semester has been targeted for a number of aggressive
philanthropic initiatives. As our concentration has narrowed in
on heightened marketing and public relation efforts in addition
to the growing number of quality, active brothers, one upcoming
charitable event has become a centerpiece of our philanthropic
focus.
This year’s one-hundredth anniversary of The American Cancer
Society’s Relay for Life event will include 18 Phi Gamma Delta
brothers, who to date have raised approximately $850. All
participants are required to raise a minimum of $100. At the
event, cancer survivors, caregivers, friends and family will all
congregate for 12 hours, honoring the continued fight against the disease.
“We're really proud of our members' involvement and that we had a large percentage sign up,”
probationary member Gregory Kordesh (2016) said. “. . . many brothers have been affected by the
disease. It's a great cause.”
Kordesh noted that the upcoming event not only aids The American Cancer Society and its many
benefactors, and it will also have a domino effect within a chapter rebuilding he believes is developing
into a strong example of a service-oriented fraternity.
Brothers Continue Planning a Sand and Stripes Volleyball Tourney
By Zachary Alderman (2014)
This semester Mu- Deuteron is taking what is believed to be an unprecedented step on the UI
campus and coordinating with another Fraternity in an effort to improve both Chapters’ philanthropies. We
will be working together with the Iowa Gamma Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon to put on a beach volleyball
tournament to support the USO. Due to both chapters having volleyball tournaments and the
philanthropies being scheduled on the same day, we made the offer to work with SigEp instead of
competing for players so both chapters can hopefully raise more money to support a great cause. We
have doubled our available volleyball courts and are bringing in new outside perspectives and resources
for event planning. We look forward to reporting a great turnout in out May newsletter!

We Are Online!
By Zachary Alderman (2014)
One of the things that we were still lacking in terms of social media by the time our last newsletter was
published was a website. That has now changed. We now have our own domain that is controlled by the
chapter, and the beginnings of a great website there. There are still some small additions to be made,
such as an online recruitment information submission form, and the additions of pictures, but on the
whole it is complete! We even have a page tied directly to the chapter calendar so you can see what
events we are planning and attending across campus month by month. We are also in the process of
getting a page on the site set up that will archive all newsletters so if you ever lose one you will be able to
view it. The web page is iowaphigam.org and we welcome suggestions for new pages on it or
submissions of information to place on current ones. Check it out!
Send us Your Stories!
By Zachary Alderman (2014)
We have so much that we are looking forward to sharing with our graduate brothers this semester! From
recruitment to scholarship, brotherhood events to philanthropies, and intramurals to campus involvement,
there are a multitude of great things to share with you. That being said, it is even more important that thi s
graduate letter tell the stories and successes of those who are reading it; you graduates! We encourage
all of you to send us your personal stories and we will include as many as we can in each issue of the Mu
Deuteron Ledger. Please send us anything in your lives you would like to share in your lives; career
successes, big family moments, and chance reunions with other brothers, the list goes on and on. We
hope that by acting as a conduit of this information you may be reminded of memorable moments with
other brothers you may have otherwise lost track of, and reinvigorate the attitude that Phi Gamma Delta is
not for college days alone. Looking forward to hearing from all of you!
Please submit your stories to us at: [email protected], and it will be submitted for use in the next
newsletter.
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or criticisms, please do not hesitate to contact me,
Zachary Alderman (Corresponding Secretary) at [email protected] or 708.828.2504. I look
forward to hearing from you!

Make an Investment in Mu Deuteron
By Zachary Alderman (2014)
The current undergraduate brothers would like to give you make an investment in the future of our
chapter if you feel so inclined. Strengthening the breadth and depth of our fundraising base is a long term
goal we have set for ourselves, and we hope you will choose take part in helping us reach that goal. We
are forever grateful to those brothers who have already taken the initiative and invested over $5,000 in
our chapter this year. We hope as the semester has progressed and you read these newsletters, follow
us on social media, and hear stories from other grad brothers; you feel we are growing into a chapter
worth supporting as we continue to move back onto campus. Thank you for your consideration and we
welcome your support!
