Not many spaces left for bid euchre tourney Dec. 17
By Fred Collins
HUNTSVILLE SENIORS CLUB 55
When 24 shufflers from the eastern United States travelled to San Diego, Cali-fornia to challenge their west coast rivals in a week-long shuffleboard competition, Roy Babcock, a frequent Club 55 shuffler, was the sole Canadian participating. Roy, playing for the east, noted that although their courts were faster than anything he had ever experienced, the east was able to make it a close contest.
It is not too early to reg-ister for our Christmas-themed bid euchre tourna-ment starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17. The $5 admission includes a light lunch. There are now fewer than 12 spaces remaining on the sign-up sheet. Phone 789–9783 for information about this or any event that interests you.
Friday night cards on Dec. 4 have been cancelled because of our Christmas dinner and dance. Your ticket could win you a door prize.
Vi McQuain’s 94th birth-day celebration and one-person drive in support of the food bank is on Saturday, Dec. 12 starting at 2 p.m. Vi requests food items in lieu of
cards or gifts. Thanks to Suzie Pilger’s
craft afternoon last week, Huntsville now has sev-eral additional guardian angels and many homes have delightful decora-tions that will become fam-ily keepsakes. The angels constructed last week are gorgeous. Watch for the next “make and take” craft event.
Congratulations to Ida Tonks, Pat Hillyard and Bob Greig, who were our crib-bage winners last Monday afternoon.
Shirley Morra and Don Woolman placed first in Wednesday morning shuffle-board, Wally Peters and Ernie MacDonald were second and Evelyn Wagg and Gertie Rim-mington third.
In Thursday night bridge, Ches and Betty Fulton were first, followed by Mardi and Gerry Keyes.
Barb Grieg was first over-all in Friday night euchre with Marg Broadbent sec-ond. Playing on men’s cards, May Maillet was first and Ed Butikofer second. Barb Greig, Lil Millar and Pat Hillyard shared the prize for the most lone hands.
At the bridge tables at the other end of the room, Magda Schwarzkopf earned first place, Mary McLaren, second, and Peter Ferguson, third.
EARLY GIFT: The Muskoka MediSpa and Vein Centre presented the women at Chrysalis women’s shelter with an early holiday gift of a free microdermabrasion treatment at their 46B King William Street location last Friday. The business also brought the women to their location free of charge. Above, pictured left to right, Amberly Wouda and Dr. James MacDonald watch as Yvonne Chennell conducts the procedure on a Chrysalis resident.
