Then, a few days later, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan, and

then a second atomic bomb leveled Nagasaki.

Meanwhile, Soviet forces advanced south, down the coast of Japanese-

occupied northern Korea…

When General Leslie Groves,the head of the Manhattan Project,

heard a rumor thatthe largest radium mine in the worldwas discovered in North Korea…

And when David Snell, a reporter with the Atlanta Constitution, said that Japanese

scientists had developed and tested an atomic bomb at Konan in North Korea…

A Japanese physicistcalled him a “liar”

And when Snell said that the Russians captured Japanese scientists at Konan and tortured them

for their “atomic know-how”…

was shot down over Konanby Soviet Yak fighters

because they were snooping onJapan’s atomic program…

during the early months of the Korean War, and the press said David Snell’s
