6 ‘simple’ stepsThere are many misconceptions about the film industry, most

surrounding the thoughts that it is nearly impossible to ‘get started’ in it. This however, is not 100% true; there are steps that need to be followed

in order to create a film.

1st – create an idea worthy of being put on film, and produce a script2nd – after that, find a production company that is willing to take on your

script – they will help develop the ideas3rd – the film is produced (shot)

4th – investors are brought in to help fund the process5th – the edited version of the film is distributed to the exhibitors

6th – the exhibitors preview the film to different audiences.

As a group task we had to investigate different distribution companies, we found the common or large companies such as; 20th Century Fox, Pixar, and Warner Brothers.

We found that what makes these companies so big is that they spread over different genres, they don’t stick to the same type of film like comedy or horror they cover all films.

After researching different distribution companies we had to find a company that could potentially distribute our thriller, however, we thought that as the larger companies don’t usually work with low budget films we would have to look to the smaller companies to work with our film.

A smaller company we thought appropriate was ‘The Works’, a UK based and British distributor known for distributing low budget films. These factors as well as the fact they specialise in the thriller genre are what made our decision.

Some of their work consists of;

• Mongol – the rise to power of Genghis Khan

• Scar 3D

• Farewell (L’affaire Farewell)
