Collect (remain kneeling)

Almighty God, you alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners: Grant your people grace to love what you command and desire what you promise; that, among the swift and varied changes of this world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

First Reading (all be seated) Isaiah 43:16-21 (Pew Bible p. 586) Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. The Gradual (all remain seated and read responsively) Psalm 126

1 When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, * then were we like those who dream.

2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, * and our tongue with shouts of joy.

3 Then they said among the nations, * “The Lord has done great things for them.”

4 The Lord has done great things for us, * and we are glad indeed.

5 Restore our fortunes, O Lord, * like the watercourses of the Negev.

6 Those who sowed with tears * will reap with songs of joy.

7 Those who go out weeping, carrying the seed, * will come again with joy, shouldering their sheaves. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever: world without end. Amen. Second Reading Philippians 3:7-16 (Pew Bible p. 955) Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Sequence (all stand) Come To Me (verses 1-2, chorus) The Village Church

Deacon: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke. People: Glory to you, Lord Christ. Holy Gospel Luke 20:9-19 (Pew Bible p. 855) Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. Sermon Nicene Creed (all stand)

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

Page 5: The Fifth Sunday in Lent The Holy Eucharist THE LITURGY OF ... … · Processional Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above CCLI: 42988 Celebrant: Bless the Lord who forgives all our sins.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People (please kneel)

The Deacon says:

Please offer your prayers and thanksgivings this morning, either out loud or silently, and after the words “Lord, in your mercy” respond with “Hear our prayer”. Let us pray.

The Deacon concludes with the following prayer:

Heavenly Father, grant these our prayers for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

Confession

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Absolution

The Celebrant says:

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Comfortable Words

The Celebrant may then say one or more of the following sentences, first saying: Hear the Word of God to all who truly turn to him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Page 6: The Fifth Sunday in Lent The Holy Eucharist THE LITURGY OF ... … · Processional Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above CCLI: 42988 Celebrant: Bless the Lord who forgives all our sins.

The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. 1 Timothy 1:15 If anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2

Peace (all stand) Celebrant: The Peace of the Lord be always with you. People: And with your spirit.

THE HOLY COMMUNION

Offertory Jesus Savior Pilot Me Arr. Aaron Hale

Jesus, Savior, pilot me Over lifes tempestuous sea;

Unknown waves before me roll, Hiding rock and treacherous shoal.

Chart and compass come from Thee; Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

Chart and compass come from Thee; Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

As a mother stills her child,

You can hush the oceans wild; Boisterous waves obey Thy will, When You say to them, Be still! Wondrous Sovereign of the sea,

Jesus, Savior, pilot me. Wondrous Sovereign of the sea,

Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

When at last I near the shore, And the fearful breakers roar

Grant me long and peaceful rest, Then, while leaning on Your chest,

May I hear You say to me, Fear not, I will pilot thee. May I hear You say to me, Fear not, I will pilot thee.

Celebrant: All things come from you, O Lord. People: And of your own have we given you.

Page 7: The Fifth Sunday in Lent The Holy Eucharist THE LITURGY OF ... … · Processional Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above CCLI: 42988 Celebrant: Bless the Lord who forgives all our sins.

The Sursum Corda (all stand)

Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit. Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them up to the Lord. Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. You bid your faithful people cleanse their hearts, and prepare with joy for the Paschal feast; that, fervent in prayer and in works of mercy, and renewed by your Word and Sacraments, they may come to the fullness of grace which you have prepared for those who love you. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: Sanctus et Benedictus Karl Digerness

The Prayer of Consecration (all kneel)

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son into the world for our salvation. By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory, that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace.

Page 8: The Fifth Sunday in Lent The Holy Eucharist THE LITURGY OF ... … · Processional Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above CCLI: 42988 Celebrant: Bless the Lord who forgives all our sins.

On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it,* and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.”

Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.”

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy sacrament, and be made one body with him, so that he may dwell in us and we in him. And bring us with all your saints into the fullness of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen. The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Fraction Celebrant: Christ our Passover Lamb has been sacrificed, once for all upon the cross. People: Therefore let us keep the feast. Prayer of Humble Access

We do not presume to come to this your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, who always delights in showing mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.

Communion

All baptized Christians who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are welcome to receive Holy Communion in this church. All who do not wish to receive are still welcome to come forward to the altar rail. You may cross your arms across your chest as an indication you do not wish to receive, and a prayer of blessing will be offered for you instead.

Gluten-free wafers are available. If you would like to receive a gluten-free wafer, simply ask the priest when he comes to you at the communion rail.

Additional prayer is offered by our Altarside Prayer Team on either side of the altar, if you are in need of specific prayer, they would be happy to pray with you after you have received communion. Congregational Hymns

Lord, Lord, Lord Ryan Flanigan; CCLI: 7061310

Verse 2: We need you now to forgive our sin

Replace our stone hearts with flesh again Undo the curse, and heal our faith

Unleash your power, Lord, come and save

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us Townend; CCLI: 1558110

How deep the Father's love for us How vast beyond all measure

That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss

The Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the Chosen One

Bring many sons to glory

Behold the man upon a cross My sin upon His shoulders

Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there

Until it was accomplished His dying breath has brought me life

I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything No gifts, no power, no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ

His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer

But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom

Broken Vessels (Amazing Grace) Joel Houston, Jonas Myrin; CCLI: 7019974

All these pieces Broken and scattered

In mercy gathered Mended and whole

Empty handed

But not forsaken I've been set free I've been set free

Amazing grace How sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me I once was lost

But now I am found Was blind but now I see

Oh I can see You now

Oh I can see the love in Your eyes Laying Yourself down

Raising up the broken to life

You take our failure You take our weakness You set Your treasure

In jars of clay So take this heart, Lord

I'll be Your vessel The world to see Your life in me

Post Communion Prayer (in unison)

Heavenly Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal kingdom. And now, Father, send us out into the world to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen. Prayer for our Search Team (in unison)

Good and gracious God, thank you for blessing our church. As we prepare for our future, we are confident of your goodness and care, and we humbly ask you to open our hearts and minds so that we may listen well for your guidance. Help us to discern Your will, and to be guided to select the person you already have in mind to be our new Rector. May we love each other and You more deeply as we make this journey together. This we pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Blessing

Grant, Almighty God, that your people may recognize their weakness and put their whole trust in your strength, so that they may rejoice for ever in the protection of your loving providence; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Recessional Hymn How Firm a Foundation Bob Kauflin; CCLI: 2874528

Verse 1 How firm a foundation, you saints of the Lord

Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word What more can He say than to you He hath said

To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled

Verse 2 Fear not, I am with you; oh be not dismayed For I am your God and will still give you aid

I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand

Verse 3

When through the deep waters I call you to go The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow

For I will be with you, your troubles to bless And sanctify to you your deepest distress

Verse 4

When through fiery trials your pathways shall lie My grace all sufficient shall be your supply The flame shall not hurt you; I only design

Your dross to consume and your gold to refine

Verse 5 The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose

I will not, I will not desert to his foes That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake

I’ll never, no never, no never forsake Dismissal Deacon: Let us go forth in the name of Christ. People: Thanks be to God.
