• The word “fauve” is French for “wild beast”• The Fauves were known for their use of color
and emphasis on shapes in their paintings• The Fauve movement was small and consisted
of 2-3 French artists in the late 1800’s – Henri Matisse– Andre Derain– Georges Seurat
Your Assignment
• Make a painting in the style of the Fauves, using wild, imaginative color and thick, brushy strokes focusing on shapes and patterns
• The subject matter is up to you. Just be original!
