Introduction• Project CARES services West Charlotte

HS, Project Lift Academy & Coulwood Middle School & 1 other possible site

• We plan to service 160 children from Grades 6-12

• We anticipate 20-25 staff members and welcome volunteers

• Our goal is to help children succeed academically in math and reading; while having fun achieving those goals.

Expectations• Be on-time (Please call at least 1 hour

prior to arrival time if running late)• Speak positively towards students,

parents, and co-workers • Be professional at all times• Be self-motivated • Ask for help (when needed)• Follow safety procedures

Elements of an Effective Program

1) improving the way students learn by addressing the whole child;

2) promoting family engagement through access to services and opportunities to participate;

3) assisting schools in functioning more efficiently by supporting learning; and

4) adding vitality to communities through engagement with the schools and resource through the program design, strategic hours of operation, and youth involvement.

Mode of Instruction:• Homework assistance, tutoring, recreational

activities and online resources are among the tools utilized to increase Math and Reading test scores.

• Learning through enrichment activities will also be utilized such as “Story & Literature Dramatization”.

• Service learning activities will be incorporated to introduce conflict resolution and character education skill building.

Program Evaluation• Each student will complete a pre-test within

the 1st week.• See assessmentfocus.com on

livebinders.com to use during the year alongside ancillary workbooks

• Individual participants’ report cards, school attendance records, and past End of Grade (EOG)/ End of Course (EOC) scores will be reviewed by program staff to further develop a baseline for progress towards goals.

Site Coordinators Expectations

• 2-3 Administrative hours available weekly to complete additional requirements (please note admin hours on your time sheet)

• Collect Attendance (Site Goal #’s) Daily / Weekly & New Applications

• Collect hard copy of time sheets on last day of month & turn in immediately to Felicia

• Lesson plans (complete weekly)• Progress Reports monthly• Parent contact & contact log complete monthly (contact 5-10

parents each week)

Site Coordinators Expectations continued…

• Each student needs to complete 30 days to count (program has 130+ days)

• Every student complete pre-test & at least 2 assignments weekly

• Gather student data (application & report cards, school attendance records, & past End of Grade (EOG)/ End of Course (EOC) scores

• Review student data with other tutors to create plans to address student needs

• Enrichment & “physical” energizer activities to be performed daily
