FROM KEN'S PEN
The following article was forwarded to me by e-mail. Paul Harvey is credited as the author, and was originally presented in the 1960’s. Read it with thoughtfulness!
“IF I WERE THE DEVIL. . .
I would gain control of the most powerful nation in the world;
I would delude their minds into thinking that they had come from man's effort, instead of God's blessings;
I would promote an attitude of loving things and using people, instead of the other way around;
I would dupe entire states into relying on gambling for their state revenue;
I would convince people that character is not an issue when it comes to leader-ship;
I would make it legal to take the life of unborn babies;
I would make it socially acceptable to take one's own life, and invent machines to make it convenient;
I would cheapen human life as much as possible so that the lives of animals are valued more than that of humans;
I would take God out of the schools, where even the mention of His name was grounds for a law suit;
I would come up with drugs that sedate the mind and target the young, and I would get sports heroes to advertise them;
I would get control of the media, so that every night I could pollute the mind of every family member for my agenda;
I would attack the family, the backbone of any nation;
I would make divorce acceptable and easy, even fashionable. If the family crumbles, so does the nation;
I would compel people to express their most depraved fantasies on canvas and movie screens, and I would call it art;
I would convince the world that people are born homosexuals, and that their lifestyles should be accepted and marveled;
I would convince the people that right and wrong are determined by a few who call themselves authorities and refer to their agenda as politically correct;
I would persuade people that the church is irrelevant and out of date, and that the Bible is for the naive;
I would dull the minds of Christians, and make them believe that prayer is not important, and that faithfulness and obedience are optional;
I guess I would leave things pretty much the way they are.”

A Busy Time, Indeed!
After a long, hot summer a little relief in the weather this week has been a wonderful thing. I am not particularly fond of hot weather and this break in temperatures makes me excited about fall.
This weekend with Brad Harrub as our speaker will be a great opportunity for us to continue to learn about the many things going on in our world and how, as a Christian, we should be prepared to handle them. Brad is an excellent speaker and I’m sure he will open our minds and our hearts.
Next weekend will be the family retreat at Camp Galilee. It had to be moved to accommodate Brad’s coming, but it will still be an-other opportunity for growth in knowledge and faith. Those who attend should find that it will be well worth their time spent. The elders can’t say enough about those who help put this together and how much it helps. Thank you.
Then coming up on September 10th is Ladies Day! Again, all who attend will be blessed with the lessons taught and the time spent together in Christian fellowship. Thank you in advance to all who work so hard to put this event together. Hopefully, we will have a record crowd.
And, if that isn’t enough, we will be enjoying two more weeks of our Summer Series. We have had great speakers and lessons so far this summer and I don’t see that changing as we finish up. Ray Crawford did an excellent job this week. If you missed his lesson, maybe you can get it on a cd.
By mentioning these, I in no way want to forget the fantastic Christ Quest weekend we had on August 5th & 6th. What a won-derful sight to see so many young people come together in one spot and have an eagerness to learn the word of God! A big thank you to all who put this together and for all of you who helped by housing so many kids. Can’t wait to see what Chase can put together for next year!
A lot is going on, and there always is. We just need to be ready to seize the opportunities when they come along.

How To Survive a Dry Season
By: David Maxson
Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
whose trust is the LORD.
He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when the heat comes,
for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit.
Jeremiah 17:7-8
Several years ago I had the opportunity to visit the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico. It's one of the driest places I've ever been to. It receives less than 10 inches of rain-fall each year! Thus, most of the landscape is made up of plants that can survive under such dry conditions (like cactuses).
However, if you go down to the Rio Grande you find a very different landscape. There are trees... lots of trees, in fact. While the rest of the land suffers from dry sandy soil, the Rio Grande provides a steady flow of water to all of the tress that surround its banks.
Isn't that the way it is with us and God? As long as we're trusting in Him, we're okay. Our branches remain fruitful and our leaves flourish. We are like the trees planted next to the gently flowing waters of the Rio Grande. While those around us trust in flesh (Jer. 17:5), we trust in the LORD. We do not worry about the drought or the heat. God is to us a constant source of spiritual strength and health.
Allow your roots to be nourished today by spending some time with the LORD by listening to his Word and com-municating to him in prayer!
Father, when we go through the dry seasons of life give us the water of life to strengthen and sustain us.
Need help with something? See the Tree of Golden Deeds in the foyer.
