Thank you very much for your continuing support and generosity. For Your Information: Supporting our church has

been traditionally accomplished by using the weekly collection basket at Sunday Mass. We would like to make you aware of other means that might prove to be helpful to our family of parishioners. Our website (www.stpatsfarm.com) can provide you with details for these four ways of giving presented here. These include: making online donations either weekly or monthly through your bank; making gifts to the church of appreciated securities; making a one time or an annual end of the year gift to the church; and, lastly, establishing a legacy gift as part of one’s estate planning. Please see our website www.stpatsfarm.com for more details. Thank you. The Finance Council of St. Patrick Church. Planned Giving: When making out your will remember

St. Patrick Parish and the Archdiocese of Hartford.

June 19th – Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Though her sins were many they were forgiven because she showed great love. Do we show great love for Jesus? Do we have the courage to be counted among those who follow Jesus? If you want to follow Jesus as a priest or religious, call Fr. Jeffrey Gubbiotti, Director of Vocations, Archdi-ocesan Center at St. Thomas Seminary, Tel. 860-242-5573, e-mail [email protected] or visit the web at www.hartfordpriest.com.

Defending Our Religious Liberty #225 June 19, 2016 As we prepare to celebrate the fourth annual “Fortnight for

Freedom” from June 21 – July 3, 2016, let us remember the

words that Pope Francis evoked during his visit to the United

States last September: “American Catholics are committed to

building a society which is truly tolerant and inclusive, to safe-

guarding the rights of individuals and communities, and to

rejecting every form of unjust discrimination. With countless

other people of good will, they are likewise concerned that

efforts to build a just and wisely ordered society respect their

deepest concerns and their right to religious liberty. That free-

dom remains one of America’s most precious possessions.

And, as my brothers, the United States Bishops, have re-

minded us, all are called to be vigilant, precisely as good citi-

zens, to preserve and defend that freedom from everything that

would threaten or compromise it.”

Graduation Mass & Scholarships

On Sunday, June 5, 11:30 Mass was a special

Graduation Mass for all seniors in the parish who are

graduating from high school or college. During the

Mass, Scholarships were awarded to seniors for their

outstanding dedication and service to the parish. The

recipients of the $750.00 Rev. Thomas J. Barry

Scholarship are: Shannon Connolly, Ryan Gorham,

Nathan Koziol and Nathaniel Walsh. Also awarded

were $500.00 Scholarships to Michael Tuttle and

Ryan Koziol. There was a special brunch after the

Mass in the Church hall for the graduates and their

families. We wish them and all graduating seniors

God’s blessings as they leave high school and begin

their college pursuits. Congratulations one and all!

We will keep you in our prayers.

Building Blocks of Mercy

Pope Francis has declared this as the “Year of Mercy.” Prayer cards may be found in the pews. Please use them as you reflect on your individual ways to show mercy by living out the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy. What are they? How can I live them in my daily life ~ taking one at a time, reflecting on it and acting on it? Spiritual Works of Mercy 1. Admonish the sinner. 2. Instruct the ignorant. 3. Counsel the doubtful. 4. Comfort those who suffer. 5. Be patient with others. 6. Forgive those who hurt us. 7. Pray for the living and the dead. Corporal Works of Mercy 1. Feed the hungry. 2. Give drink to the thirsty. 3. Clothe the naked. 4. Shelter the homeless. 5. Visit the imprisoned. 6. Visit the sick. 7. Bury the dead. It is the 18th week of the Year of Mercy. We are half-way through the year. How are you doing so far?

Prayer Shawl Meeting: The St. Patrick Prayer Shawl knitters and crocheters will meet on June 24th at Mil-

lie’s This is the last meeting until Fal.

Please call Barbara if you can attend. Comfort in a Shawl: Free Prayer Shawls are available to comfort a relative, friend,

caregiver, or neighbor, no matter the age, who would find solace wrapped in a soft shawl made with love and blessed by prayer. We also have a limited supply of blessed

baby blankets. Call Barbara Sutkowski (860-747-8427) to request one, or visit the church office to pick out a shawl.

The Pro-Life Ministry asks that you return your baby bottles

on Sunday, June 19th, Father’s Day. The an-nual fundraiser was sponsored to support the work of St. Gerard's Center for Life in Hartford. Ed Gales, Chair, asked parishioners to take a baby bottle after Mass, fill it with spare coins, cash, or a check, and return it on Father's Day in June. Leticia Velasquez, Director and Executive

Director of St. Gerard's, then explained the pro-life mission of St. Gerard's. Over 400 baby bottles were accepted by the parishion-ers attending all four Masses. We thank you for your support. If you were out of town for Mother's Day, and would still like a baby bottle, the Pro-Life Ministry has set some aside in the church hall for you. Further, if you would like to assist the Pro-Life Ministry in its many life-affirming activities, please contact

Bob Jordan (860-919-4021) or Ed Gales (860-508-3035).

Archbishop Blair to Ordain Ten Men as Permanent Deacons

Saturday, June 4, 2016

Hartford, Conn. – (June 2, 2016) Ten men will be ordained by Archbishop Leo-

nard P. Blair as permanent deacons on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford at 11:00 a.m. They will join over 300 active and retired-

active deacons who comprise the Permanent Diaconate in the Archdiocese of

Hartford.

The 2016 candidates for the Permanent Diaconate are: 1) Mr. Brian Armstrong

from Wolcott, CT; 2) Mr. James Blanchette from Berlin, CT; 3) Mr. Robert Carter, Jr. from Derby, CT; 4) Mr. Dominic Corraro from North Haven, CT; 5)

Mr. William Dziatko from Marlborough, CT; 6) Mr. Philip Gosselin from East

Hartford, CT; 7) Mr. Michael Lynch from Seymour, CT; 8) Mr. Angelo Morello; 9) Mr. Paul Robert from Broad Brook, CT; and 10) Mr. Norris Taylor from Win-

dsor, CT.

A permanent deacon is a man who is at least 35 years of age, and dedicates his

service in the threefold ministry of the Word, of the liturgy, and of charity. A

deacon may be married and raising a family, or celibate. More often than not, he will have another career outside of the Church. He has specific responsibilities in

assisting the priest in the celebration of the Eucharist, and has other liturgical

responsibilities including: administering the sacrament of baptism, witnessing marriages, bringing Viaticum to the dying and presiding at liturgies of the Word

and Communion services in the absence of a priest. He is particularly called to exercise special works of charity and justice, particularly on behalf of the poor.

About the candidates:

Brian Armstrong – (age 52) belongs to Saint Ann in Bristol. He says he wants to

be a deacon because he wants to serve the Lord through the liturgy and also serve

the community in any way that the Lord has called him to serve.

James Blanchette – (age 55) belongs to Sacred Heart Church in East Berlin.

Blanchette believes the diaconate is another avenue to serve people in need, hav-ing seen the struggles first hand during his 20- year career with the Hartford Po-

lice Department. He is currently a social worker with the State of Connecticut.

Robert Carter, Jr. – (age 56) belongs to Saint Michael Parish in Derby. Accord-ing to him, he is becoming a deacon to follow and imitate Jesus Christ by serving

the people of God and to bring the joy of the gospel to those he encounters.

Dominic Corraro – (age 54) belongs to Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Hamden.

As a deacon, Corraro says he will be able to serve God, the church, and its people.

William Dziatko – (age 44) belongs to Saint John Fisher in Marlborough. Ac-

cording to Dziatko, becoming a deacon will give him a special opportunity to

serve by sharing his joy and enthusiasm knowing that Christ loves everyone.

Philip Gosselin – (age 53) belongs to Saint Christopher Church in East Hart-

ford. He wants to be a disciple of Jesus and serve the Church as a deacon.

Michael Lynch – (age 49) belongs to Saint Augustine in Seymour. He wants to

serve His Church and help people understand the relationship they have been

offered. Paul Robert – (60) belongs to Saint Catherine of Siena in Broad Brook. He has

always been active in his parish’s lay ministries. By serving as a deacon, he says

that he is answering a call that he has been discerning since he was 15 years old.

Norris Taylor – (age 60) belongs to Saint Gertrude in Windsor. He wants to

serve as a deacon so he can be directly involved in the ministries of his Catholic

faith and help provide spiritual guidance to humanity.
