were used.
• They were large chambers that
usually would have cool temperatures
for storing food and water, and
sometimes ice.
18th Century
•William Cullen first preformed
refrigeration in 1784.
•It wasn’t used for a practical reason
until 1834
19th Century
•1805- first vapor compression style
fridge
•1834- first practical fridge made by
Jacob Perkins
•1844- improved fridge made by John
Gorrie
•1876- patent for process of liquefying
gas (necessary for modern day fridges)

•1856- First commercial refrigerators
sold by Alexander C. Twinning
•1859- Ferdinand Carre developed a
fridge that works on ammonia instead
of air.

transported dairy products and
seafood
