Euro-IX: a very brief history
•RIPE EIX-WG (formed 1998)
•By end of 2000 some IXPs saw a need to devote more time to IXP operational specific issues
•May 2001 - Euro-IX was born (7 IXPs signed up)
• It worked! The IXPs were mainly not for profit, non competitive, were willing to exchange experiences and work together to solve problems & issues.

- Europe: 37 (25 different countries)
- Asia: 4 (Japan & Nepal)
- United States: 3
• 4 affiliated patrons:

• Forums: Biannual meetings where our member IXPs (35+) and Patrons come together to discuss technical, commercial and regulatory issues.
- Interaction is highly encouraged
- Topics: Co-locations, IXP policy, IXP network tools, attracting more participants, IXP customer views, almost anything IXP related!
• Mailing lists: Technical, Security, Switch vendor specific, other interest groups.
