Their generosity is still benefiting us today. Three years ago, the PCC Board of Trustees established the Wallace and Mary Alexander Society to honor members who make giſts of $500 or more to the PCC Endowment Fund or, more importantly, include PCC in their will, trust or estate plan. We were excited when our courtyard walkway was unveiled displaying the bricks for the Wallace and Mary Alexander Society. Over the last three years, 114 PCC families and individuals have joined the Alexander Society. Each year we expand the brick walkway, adding families who have joined the society in the past year. We hope you’ll join and help ensure a strong financial future for the ministry of PCC. As our church enters its second century, it is imperative that our mission, outreach and values continue and grow. An Endowment in your will or trust is a wonderful way to continue the work of the Church for generations to come. We invite you to join the Alexander Society and have your name or the name of a loved one inscribed on brick. This year’s bricks will be unveiled on May 21st. Adult Education: Seeing Ourselves in Those Who Saw JesusSundays at 11:30 am, through April 2nd
During the season of Lent, join Dr. Don Ashburn for a five week class series called, “Seeing Ourselves in Those Who Saw Jesus”. During Jesus’ lifetime, he was confronted by, and he confronted, various groups with different understandings of how God was active in the world, how salvation would come, and how people should treat one another. We will look at groups such as the Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, Zealots and Romans. We’ll consider the similarities and differences between how people living long ago saw and reacted to Jesus, and how we do this today. Classes will meet consecutive Sundays from March 5th to April 2nd at 11:30 am in the PCC Chapel. No prior knowledge of the Bible or of ancient of history is needed. For more

As we approach Holy Week, it’s time to sign up for our Maundy Thursday Fellowship Dinner. The dinner will be followed by the Tenbrae Service at 7:30 pm in the Sanctuary.Prices: Adult early bird rate: $15 (ages 18 & older, sign up by April 9th service). Adult regular rate: $20. Children: ages 10-17: $5; under age 10, free macaroni & cheese dinner.

Piedmont Forum: Film Screening - “Facing Fear” - April 2nd, 5 pmJoin us for a free showing of the 2014 Academy Award nominated short film “Facing Fear.” A 13 year-old boy was thrown out of his home for being gay. While living on the streets of Hollywood, he was savagely beaten by a group of neo-Nazi skinheads. 25 years later he meets one of the former neo-Nazi skinheads who attacked him. This film retraces the haunting accounts of the attack, the revelation that brought these men together again, and their strug-gles with doubt, anger and fear on the way to healing and reconciliation. Their mission is to give terminally ill children and their families a peaceful place to say goodbye. prominent children's hospital, Hull realized the necessity for a more supportive medical model for children at the end of their lives. Her research of pediatric care modalities convinced her that approaches to pediatric palliative care that existed throughout Europe could be replicated here. In 2004 Dr. Hull opened George Mark Children's House in San Leandro. Since then more than twelve hundred children and their families have been lovingly cared for by their staff. Dr. Hull is the staff Psychologist and President of the Board of George Mark, as well as an adjunct staff member at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. PCC is proud to include George Mark as an Alternative Gift Market recipient each year. We are so pleased that Kathy Hull will be preaching at PCC on Sunday, March 26th.

Investing Your Time
The other day, I got a large, important looking envelope in the mail. So, I ripped it open … only to read: “Congratulations! Most likely, your investment portfo-lio is among the top 5% in value in the United States.” I looked again at the address to be sure it was meant for me. It was. Then I thought, maybe someone invested a pile of money for me in a secret account without telling me! Alas, no. Finally, I just laughed at what was clearly a financial advisor’s marketing ploy to drum up business. And, even if I didn’t respond the way he intended, the letter did make me think about investing – not my money, but something even more important – my time.
We’re now in the season of Lent. And, just as many cultures traditionally set aside 10% of a year’s income for religious use, so the observance of Lent sets aside time – roughly 1/10th of a year’s days. We prepare ourselves to receive the amazing news of Easter by taking time to look at our own lives. We ask ourselves what we truly value; how can we develop deeper connections with God and others; and, what are the things (habits, behaviors, thoughts, passions) that hold us back from living our values and loving more faithfully. Frederick Buechner describes how this process might look:
“When you look at your face in the mirror, what do you see that you most like and what do you see that you most deplore? Is there any person in the world, or any cause, that, if circumstances called for it, you would be will-ing to die for? If this were the last day of your life, what would you do with it? To hear yourself try to answer questions like these is to begin to hear something not only of who you are but of what you are becoming. It can be a pretty depressing business all in all. But if sackcloth and ashes are at the start of it, something like Easter may be at the end.”
In that sense, Lent is an investment opportunity you can’t afford to miss. So, I invite you to take stock of your life. Develop a portfolio of spiritual practice and faithful service. And may God richly bless you, this season and beyond.
