The elephant man review
David lynch's adaptation to the real life story of a deformed man lost in his world and created
by others, first sight of him at a circus where he is found by Anthony hopkins's character anddecides he will help this very curious looking man, to which he takes him into his hospital and
looks after him as his own, to which he is revieled to the world by the press, and curiously
looked upon further, Heartbraking story of a deformity, the effects and consequences.
fig.1 Elephant Man
within the image above it shows how trapped the elephant man really is, within himselfand within life itself, everybody looking at him and calling upon him in ways to which
nobody would ever appreciate david lynch really has captured the emotions behind this
story and portrayed every shot as the best it can be,it's a very benign horror film, one in
which "the creature" is the pursued instead of the pursuer (Canb, 2011) showing the
side of man that is truly beastly and showing that people turn into as much as a monster
as the "monster" they are so willingly to look upon and mock.

fig.2 Poster Art, Elephant man and Anthony Hopkins
Within the image above it shows of great emotion with Anthony hopkins face, and
concentration for his actions and possibilities, also the caption " a story of bravery a triumph of
humanity" which captures the very famous moment in the film of the elephant man running
away from a screaming group, to which he stands up for himself in great courage and screams "
I AM NOT AN ANIMAL, I AM A HUMAN BEING!" which really captures what david lynch wants
the audience to feel, happyness and solitude for the character and that feeling of
accomplishment and that anybody can do anything, they just have to fight for it.
His moving performance contrasts with the Victorian world of industrial horror thatdirector David Lynch tries to crush him with (Haflidason,2001) such as drunks, angry
groups, his "master" and the general public whom to which have eyesight upon him, but
in a very unique light the film shines through the darkness of the victorian world and
twists it to the brightness to life on the other side.

Elephant Man "Owner"
the make believe owner of the elephant man, making profit off looks for the ugliness that he
provides within the film makes only anger and sympathy for him, as by the end of the fim the
true story behind him is that hes so ugly on the inside he only makes up for it for what he cant
be on the outside, to which he loves Merrick(elephant man) for all the wrong reasons and
the viewer really understand this which i feel david lynch portrayed very well.
At his time of greatest happiness, his suicide (Francis, 2008) the final scene of the
emotional rollercoaster of a film, the happiest moment of the film yet, for the worst
reasons, the happyness the viewer feels for the final rest of merrick, yet the sadness of
the reason to which it has to happen.i feel this is very well shown through the film
gradually building up to the moment when he is at peice once and for all from everythin

and has gone through a horrible life but has been shown in the best possible light.
