The electrical installation like you’ve never seen before

2

Of course, that’s the conventional solution. And the familiar

main panel architecture does offer a number of advantages.

But what about the downsides? Well, for lack of an alternative

solution, you tend to downplay the negatives. Hardwired

electrical installations require huge amounts of buses and

cabling to bring electricity from the main panel to the places

where it is needed throughout the building. Not only is this

labour-intensive, it makes it extremely difficult to budget and

plan accurately, which is why installation costs and deadlines

are so often overrun. Things get even more complicated

when you throw a building management system into the

equation. The equipment is more complex, and you need

programming skills to set up the system. These factors all

add to your project costs.

To make matters worse, for large projects, the wiring and

programming are provided by two different subcontractors:

an electrician and a systems integrator. If something goes

wrong, establishing responsibility—and getting the problem

solved quickly for your customer—can be a challenge.

In today’s office buildings, when you think electrical distribution, you think “main panel and wiring—lots of wiring.”

Now there is a new zoning control solution that eliminates the downsides:

3

Roombox.

4

ModularUnlike conventional solutions involving one or more main switchboards that distribute electricity room by room throughout the building, Roombox gives each 50-square-meter area its own dedicated electrical distribution module. Roombox: an all-in-one solution that makes design and installation faster and easier than ever.

Get a new perspective on electrical distribution. Choose Roombox for your next office building project.Unlike other solutions, Roombox can manage three key building applications:> Lighting> Blinds and shutters > HVACRoombox is based on a modular, multi-application control architecture that revolutionizes design and installation.

5

Roombox makes reorganizing workspaces twice as fast as conventional solutions.

Electrical distribution has never been more flexible

A single connection is all you need to integrate each Roombox unit into your BMS (building management system). The in-room switches are the same as with conventional systems. Now, that’s easy!

And it has never been easier to integrate distribution into your BMS

6

Multi-applicationEach Roombox handles electrical distribution, of course. The unit also provides protection, metering, and control just a few meters away from building equipment like lighting, air conditioning units, and motorized window blinds.

> Electrical distribution Roombox distributes power from a single 16A incoming supply to 12 output circuits. Each circuit is dedicated to a specific application such as HVAC, roller blinds, or lighting, for instance.

> Protection General protection of Roombox insured by a circuit breaker & individual cut device of each circuit via an innovative static switch system. The system can be controlled and reset remotely; after a fault has been cleared, the circuit can be restarted virtually immediately by using the push-button control or remotely via the BMS supervision interface.

> Metering Each Roombox unit meters and saves to memory the overall power consumption for each type of application (Lighting, HVAC, overall consumption. The data collected can be transmitted via the bus to the BMS for analysis.

> Control Each output is controlled individually for separate adjustment of lighting and blinds, for example. Each Roombox handles all of the necessary sensors, including hardwired, presence and light level sensors, and window contacts. The unit also includes configurable automation capabilities to handle manual, semi-automatic, and automatic scenarios. And Roombox shares all of this information with the BMS, of course.

Save time and energyFrom installation design to operation and maintenance, Roombox enhances the occupant experience at each stage in the office building lifecycle.

> Fully adaptableOne Roombox controls a workspace about the size of four individual offices or a comparable amount of open-plan office space—about 50 square meters. With Roombox, your customers can adjust lighting and temperature in individual offices, equip conference rooms with a broad array of features, and set up open-plan offices quickly and easily.

And, if occupants’ needs change, additional Roombox can be added, either to reconfigure the current office setup, or to add additional workstations. No additional cabling and no changes to the floor’s electrical panel are required. It’s that simple.

11

> Less cablingRoombox offers a unique design that reduces electrical and communication cabling needs by 30% to 60%. A single electrical circuit powers several Roombox units, eliminating the need for extensive cabling. Up to nine Roombox can be connected via a single 2.5 mm three-phase line. Downline, each piece of equipment is powered and controlled individually by the Roombox. Cabling distances are shorter, and plug-and-go connector cables make installation in drop ceilings easier.

> The freedom to arrange—and rearrange—workspacesRoombox are easy to install on partition walls and in drop ceilings, either directly or using a DIN rail. DIN–rail installation gives you the freedom to arrange and rearrange partition walls so your customers can adapt their office space to their changing needs quickly and easily.

> Space-saving compact design for optimal use of propertyRoombox reduces the number of outputs from the main switchboard, which means a more compact installation can be used. And, because the installation is smaller, facilities rooms can also be downsized, saving valuable space that your customers can use for building occupants’ core business.

-100 kgThe amount of copper wire saved with Roombox (340 kg) as compared to a conventional protection and control system (440 kg) for a building of around 1,900 square meters.

-60%Save up to 60% off your power cabling and up to 30% off your command cabling compared to conventional architectures.

12

Connectivity you can trustRoombox comes with reliable, easy-to-use standard connectors you can trust to help you work faster, smarter, and safer.

> Plug and go with Wieland connectorsBecause the traditional screw-in connectors have been replaced with Wieland fast connectors, Roombox can be set up in record time without compromising safety. Choose pre-terminated cables, or assemble them yourself in your workshop or on site. With Wieland fast connectors, installing Roombox units in drop ceilings is faster and more comfortable.

> You can’t get it wrongRoombox connectors have been given different shapes and colours to help you distinguish between different voltages and applications. This easy-to-read colour-coding system reduces costly cabling errors.

13

> Hook it all up and it works!

Roombox has several types of connectors right on the front of the unit:• RJ12 for motion detectors for lighting control. These detectors detect both motion and light intensity. They are equipped with reliable, easy-to-install telephone-style plugs.• RJ45-standard connectors to plug into a local diagnostics PC.• Wago connectors to link the Roombox to a building management.

Once the cables are plugged into the Roombox, the equipment, and the associated controls, the whole system can be turned on using easy-to-access buttons right on the front of the Roombox.

There is no need for costly communicating sensors and switches. Roombox is designed to be hooked up to commonly used cables and conventional switches; information is transmitted to other equipment via the Roombox unit’s communication bus.

If needed—if your customer requests it or if glass walls prohibit cabling, for instance—

Why spend more? Use affordable conventional sensors and switches

14

15

Better project management on the building siteWhen you give your customers Roombox with building management capabilities, you add the value of automation to your traditional electrical distribution offering. And you are free to test your installation on your own.

Once you have completed the necessary hook-ups, you can test your installation immediately to make sure that each button correctly operates the equipment assigned to it. There is no need to wait until the Roombox unit has been hooked up to the BMS; simply turn it on to make sure that everything is functioning properly.

For installers For smaller buildings, it is easy to integrate Roombox into the electrical installation, configure simple scenarios, and check that they work using the test button on the front of the unit.

For systems integrators For larger installations that include a BMS, Roombox makes your work a whole lot easier. Build your architecture using standard equipment and your preferred software—Roombox is simple to integrate. Then, just select, modify, or create new scenarios, transfer them to the Roombox, and lock the Roombox’s settings to avoid any interference with your configuration. You can also have an installer configure the scenarios locally from each Roombox.

This unique system makes it easy to establish responsibility in the event of a malfunction so that corrective measures can be taken quickly.

16

A choice of 2 communication protocols depending on buildingPerhaps the building you’re working on is designed for a LON or KNX building management system. Or, it may be a building with a more modest infrastructure. Whatever the type of building, there is a Roombox that meets the customer’s needs.

Electrical distribution with RoomboxYour customer wants automation capability to run applications like heating, air-conditionning, lighting and shutters/roller blinds. Roombox works as an advanced module providing power, protection and metering.

For an installation of up to 5,000 m² of office space, not requiring an exchange of information between the hot & cold production with the HVAC terminals, the KNX Roombox offers all the advantages of an automated building without the complexity required by a regulation between production and distribution.

For any surface of office space superior to 2,500 m² requesting a regulation between production and distribution, the LON Roombox is the ideal solution to integrate “electrical” functions into the BMS world (Building Management System)

You’re the expert your customers turn to

Property developers, investors, and construction professionals all share the same goals: to complete their projects on time and on budget while offering building owners and occupants optimal comfort and energy efficiency. Roombox is the solution. When you recommend Roombox, you position yourself as an expert and show your customers that you understand their needs and can provide a simple, innovative, accessible solution.

> Energy-efficient office buildingsRoombox has the capacity to fine-tune lighting, HVAC and shutter control by communicating with sensors and detectors installed in strategic office areas like doors and windows. The sensors and detectors read the environment and, according to the information they pick up, optimize and coordinate operation of all equipment to ensure maximum energy efficiency. Roombox also provides real-time building energy consumption readings, by area and by type of application. This enables building operators to quickly pinpoint energy loss or waste so that corrective measures can be taken immediately. Roombox can inform occupants if they are not using equipment properly, if a defective piece of equipment needs repair, or if pre-programmed scenarios should be updated. The data gathered are available via the supervision system bus.

> Business as usual for building occupantsEven if an advanced scenario is implemented to maximize energy efficiency, building occupants can simply go about their day-to-day activities as before. They still turn lights on and off as needed, open and close window blinds, and have the option of adjusting the temperature in their office. Wireless, batteryless switches can be placed where it is most convenient for users.

30%Roombox can help building operators save up to 30% on their energy bills and operating costs

19

> Advanced multi-application scenariosRoombox comes with pre-programmed scenarios you can modify using standard configuration tools. And, if you integrate Roombox into a BMS, you can also implement advanced, multi-application scenarios.

Turn lights off when nobody is in the roomSome advanced scenarios might include: • Varying lighting intensity to maintain a constant level of 350 lux throughout the workday and in all seasons. • Dimming or turning off lights completely near windows if overall light exceeds a predefined threshold. • Turning off lights if the room is unoccupied for more than 15 minutes.

Use the sun to your advantage without the downsides

Some advanced scenarios might include:• Lowering blinds if the sun is raising the inside temperature or if lighting exceeds a preset threshold. • Combining window blind and HVAC management to reduce energy consumption.

Turn the heat on only when neededSome advanced scenarios might include:• Turning HVAC systems off if a window is left open for a prolonged amount of time. • Turning HVAC systems down if a room is left unoccupied.

20

> Easier, faster, more cost-effective maintenanceRoombox immediately pinpoints electrical malfunctions like short circuits and overloads due to an electronical static switch. Once the malfunction has been repaired, power is turned back on either remotely via the BMS or by pressing the button or command associated with the concerned circuit.

> As flexible as you need it to beWith Roombox, you can move or remove partition walls as often as you want, especially if your Roombox units are installed in drop ceilings. Roombox automatically adjusts to the new workspace setup.

> A solution that grows and changes with youWith Roombox, your customer can change their control strategy as their needs change. For example, you can add motion and light detectors—automatically recognized by Roombox—and increase building energy efficiency. Or, you can add switches and broaden the manual control settings to increase occupant comfort. Alternatively, you can integrate one or more Roombox units into a BMS.

And, because Roombox protects each circuit individually, there is no need to shut down properly-functioning circuits during maintenance.

Unparalleled service continuity
