Cumberlandhasalonghistoryofoutstandingteaching,andsuperiorteachingisacriticalpartoftheschool.Inordertofosterandrecognize
outstandingteachingatCumberland,twoalumniprovidedagenerousgifttoendowtheHarveyS.JacksonExcellenceinTeachingAward.TwoJacksonTeachingAwardsaregiveneachyear--onetoaprofessorwhoteachesfirstyearcoursesandonetoaprofessorwhoteachesupperlevelcourses.
AnyCumberlandstudentorfacultymembermaynominateaprofessorfortheawardbysendinganemailtoDeanStricklandwhichexplainshowthenomineemeetsthecriteriafortheaward.Thecriteriaare(1)masteryofthesubjectmatter;(2)abilitytoconveyinformationeffectivelytostudents;(3)demonstratedenthusiasmforteaching;(4)commitmenttoexcellenceintheclassroom;(5)innovationinteachingtechniquesand(6)commitmenttostudents.
Youmaynominatesomeonewhosecourseyouarecurrentlytaking,someonewhosecourseyouhavetakeninthepast,orsomeonewithwhomyouhavehadother
