A Message from Martin McBrien – Chairman As Chairman, it is indeed my privilege to work with the dedicated and committed members of FLC in a spirit of harmony and mutual respect. I have to acknowledge the time and effort being devoted by the Principals, staff colleagues and support officers, facilitated by the Coordinator. Already, the Fermanagh Learning Community has been implementing and extending curricular collaboration at post- 16 level and is considering similar development at KS4 in the future. Simultaneously, effective progress is being made in the development of CEIAG which will facilitate progression to a wide variety of career pathways. There are still many obstacles to be overcome and perhaps many “unknowns” yet to emerge, before the shape of the 21 st century educational landscape, both locally and regionally, crystallises but whatever direction the road ahead may have to follow, and wherever it may eventually lead, I am confident that within FLC lies the expertise, vision and commitment to ensure that our young people will be enabled to fully develop as many strands of their talents and abilities as possible so that their aspirations may be achieved. They deserve no less. Dessie Gamble – Fermanagh Learning Community Coordinator

I have been in post since September 2009. I have been working with Principals and the various subgroups to assist schools as they plan to meet the requirements of the Entitlement Framework.

I can be contacted at St. Fanchea’s College Tel. No. 02866322919 Ext 104 Email: [email protected]

CEIAG The heads of Careers of all Schools, representatives from South West College and the Careers Service NI meet regularly. The teachers benefit greatly from the opportunity to share good practice and to ensure that they are fully informed and up to date with the knowledge, skills and expertise required to offer advice and guidance to pupils on pathways and progression linked to the Entitlement Framework.

The Website developed by the Careers Subgroup is available to all Careers Staff, Curriculum Leaders and Principals. Much of the work developed by the Careers group has also been hosted on LearnNI. The link to the Careers website is:

https://www.c2kexchange.net/sites/FermanaghLC/default.aspx To find Fermanagh Learning Community Careers information on LearnNI – Log in as normal – go to Library – then Staff – then Post Primary Materials – then Employability – then search FLC.

Curriculum Curriculum leaders have concentrated on developing the curriculum offer for shared access courses from September 2010. Curriculum leaders focus on the levels of courses which are particular to the pupils in their schools. For example at Entry level, level 1/ level 2 (key stage 4) and level 3 (Post 16). Common timetable arrangements have been

agreed to facilitate access to the shared courses e.g. an agreed range of subjects will be timetabled at the same time at post-16 in a shared block. Individual schools will then incorporate this shared block into their own timetabling arrangements.

Area Based Prospectus The WELB have developed an online e prospectus for Northern Ireland. The members of Fermanagh Learning Community plan to publish details of the courses available in Fermanagh schools on the website.

Online Teaching for Educators Teachers from St. Eugene’s, St. Joseph’s, Erne Integrated and the Collegiate Grammar have been developing their online teaching skills through a course run by the Regional Training Unit. They are currently preparing a course of lessons to be delivered totally online. “It has been a real challenge coming to terms with the virtual learning environment and gaining experience of dealing with students at a distance. However, it has also been an enriching educational experience as it makes you question what you are doing in the classroom situation”. Bill Forgrave – Collegiate Grammar
