The Evolution Dilemma By Ted Foster

In Previous Parts: Captain Picard's r i d i n g lesson was interrupted by a d i s t r e s s c a l l from Der al1ium II, a colony endanger ed by an aster o id on a c o l l i s i o n course. The Enter pr i s e crew comes up with a plan to pull the asteroid off i t s course with the help of thruster modules attached to the asteroid's surface. The Enter pr i s e also e n l i s t s the help of the Pegasus, a f i g h t e r c a r r i e r commanded by Captain Marschall, and the So 1 s t i c e , a Betazoid passenger ship. The attempt to move the asteroid f a i l e d due to interference from a mysterious shapeshifting ship that has been detected in the v i c i n i t y of both the Enter pr i se and the Pegasus.

Now plans must be inacted to evacuate the planet "s inhabitants, however, Coordinator Effingham t e l l s Picard that the c o l o n i s t s w i l l not leave the native species behind that they have been doing genetic exper imentation on to try to r a i s e them to sent iency.

Pihen we l a s t l e f t the story, the a l i e n ship had reappeared and Picard had ordered the Enter pr i se to f i r e on the a l i e n ship. . .
