Programme
Welcome to the Dulwich Olympiad
from the Director of SchoolsDulwich College InternationalBrian McDouall
I am delighted to introduce the very first Dulwich Olympiad, the first sporting, music and arts event to involve all eight Dulwich Schools. The Olympiad will be an opportunity for students to represent their school in both sporting and cultural activities and compete against their peers from the other Colleges. This is a chance for students to engage with their peers in a competitive inclusive environment and to channel the pride and spirit they have for their school into their chosen field. I wish the best of luck to all students taking part and encourage their parents and peers to support them.
from the HeadmasterDulwich College Beijing David Mansfield
The Dulwich Colleges International schools are very proud to be associated with Dulwich College London and the Olympiad is an opportunity for us to show our common roots and vision through this exciting and memorable event. On behalf of Dulwich College Beijing, may I welcome all our guests to the Beijing portion of the Olympiad tour. We are especially pleased to greet Dr Joe Spence, Master of Dulwich College London, and all the staff and students who have travelled from England to be with us. To the Executive Committee and Directors of DCI and to my fellow Headmasters of all the Dulwich College International schools, a genuine Beijing welcome to you as well. To all parents, guests and participants from all over Asia, a heart-felt welcome to you too.

SwimmingThe swimming events for the 2015 Dulwich Olympiad will take place during the afternoon of Thursday 2nd April in the National Olympic Sports Centre Swimming Stadium, which hosted the 1990 Asian Games. The U13, U15 and U17 age groups will see 50M races in backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle and individual medley as well as the freestyle and medley relays.
In 1990 a host of records were established in this stadium at country, Asian Games and World level. We are hoping to see some fantastic times that may last beyond the 2019 Dulwich Olympiad in London.

BasketballThe basketball events will take place on Friday 3rd April at the NOSC Basketball stadium. The boys competition will be played in the morning followed by the girls matches in the afternoon. Both competitions will be played at U13, U15 and U17 level in a group format. The 3rd and 4th place teams will play off for the bronze medal, followed by the top two teams competing for the gold medal.
The games will be played at the impressive National Olympic Sports Centre Basketball Stadium, which was constructed for the 1990 Asian Games. The gold medals on that occasion were won by China (men) and South Korea (women).
For the first Dulwich Olympiad, we will be using three courts in the stadium, which will see participation from all eight Colleges in at least one of the age groups.

Dulwich College LondonDulwich College is proud of its strong tradition in rugby which is exemplified by the 450 boys who play rugby at Dulwich in one of the 40 teams. Dulwich has produced many outstanding international players including Nick Easter and Andrew Sheridan. The school also has a tradition of touring, the first one being in 1903 travelling to Paris. This tradition continues with recent tours to New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and a tour to America and Canada in 2014.
The 1st XV have enjoyed unprecedented success over the last three years. They began by winning the 2012 St Joseph’s tournament for the first time and achieved history in the tournament by not conceding a point on the first day. This team then went on to win the Daily Mail competition and was awarded The Daily Telegraph Schools Sports Team of the Year. The following year’s team achieved even more success by being only the 6th Dulwich College 1st XV to go through the season unbeaten, culminating in a second Daily Mail win at Twickenham and being awarded the Rugby World Team of the year. This was repeated last year when the 1st XV beat Warwick in the final of the Nat West Cup 53-7 to record “back to back to back” victories at Twickenham. Dulwich are just as proud of the fact that earlier this year they put out 30 rugby teams on Saturday giving over 550 boys a chance to represent the school.
The Scots CollegeRaising fine men since 1893, The Scots College is one of Australia's oldest and most respected independent boys schools. Scots sport has experienced an upturn in recent years, developing programmes across all sports that operate at the cutting edge. In rugby, Scots has finished in the top spot in consecutive years in the prestigious Sydney GPS Rugby competition and, with "brave hearts and bold minds", will be
aiming to continue this run of success in future years.

Music at the DulwichOlympiadThe sporting events will not be the only attraction at the Dulwich Olympiad. There will be over 200 musicians and singers taking part in performances at Dulwich College Beijing and the V-Continent Hotel.
The rehearsals will involve students from across the Colleges and will start on the morning of Thursday 2nd April in preparation for the Olympiad Concert at the College’s Wodehouse Theatre at 7pm that evening. The programme will start with a performance by Dulwich College London, followed by a joint performance from the international Colleges. These collaborative works will include the Dulwich College school song, as well as John Williams’ epic Olympic Fanfare and Theme, a medley for the orchestra of music from the James Bond movies, and Christopher Tin’s Grammy Award winning classic Baba Yetu for mass choir, orchestra and percussion.
The Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Friday will also feature performances from the orchestra, choir and percussionists, to lend an air of celebration as we reflect on the successes, friendships and healthy rivalry of the past few days.
The combined Big Band will play before the exhibition rugby match on Thursday 2nd April at 2.40pm on the DCB rugby field. This is a prelude to the England v Australia clash between Dulwich College and The Scots College from Sydney, so listen out for Eye of the Tiger and other classic songs! The Big Band will also feature in Thursday evening’s Olympiad Concert.

Art at the Dulwich OlympiadThe Dulwich Olympiad is an opportunity for all the schools to showcase not just their sporting abilities but their own unique character and culture. Art students at each school were asked to create a flag to inspire their peers and represent their College at the Olympiad. These are the winning entries. Visit www.dulwicholympiad.com to read more about the entries and artists.

Photography exhibition
In November, students, staff and alumni from the Dulwich College International schools were
invited to participate in the second annual Science and Art Photography Competition. This competition
challenged entrants to represent science through art.
The enthusiasm behind this year’s competition came from the organiser, Phillip Sexton, who teaches at Dulwich
International High School Suzhou. Approximately 550 photos were submitted from over 220 participants and an entry from each
DCI school earned a first, second or third place.
Congratulations to our many winners and runners-up and thank you to our judges. All the selected photographs will be showcased at the Dulwich
Olympiad Gala Dinner at the V-Continent Hotel on Friday 3rd April.
