As well as manufacturing and engineering, the city has a well- founded reputation for businesses that think outside of the box. The creative industries can span a variety of sectors from software developers to architects. Over the years, a number of new creative businesses have established themselves in the city and are now flourishing. It is these businesses that the Creative Industries Business of the Year Award at this year’s Derby Telegraph Business Awards aims to recognise. This award has been judged by category sponsor HSKS Greenhalgh and the winner will be announced at the awards ceremony, which takes place on June 24 at Derby College’s Roundhouse. HSKS Greenhalgh is a new sponsor for the Derby Telegraph Business Awards. The company is an East Midlands-based firm of chartered accountants, with an office in Derby. Managing director Kultaran Singh said: “We feel it an important part of our commitment to the county to support local businesses and promote their success stories through a fantastic platform such as the Derby Telegraph Business Awards.” Mr Singh said that his firm decided to back the Creative Industries Business of the Year Award because Derbyshire has a long history of creativity. He said: “Derbyshire has long been admired for its creativity, from the mills and the jet engine, through to Lara Croft. “The Creative Industries Business of the Year Award recognises the achievements of those innovative businesses who are continuing this tradition by putting Derby on the map in this important economic sector.” Mr Singh believes that Derbyshire is a great place for the creative industries – and other sectors – to flourish. He said: “From its traditional industrial heritage to the modern high-tech businesses that are now emerging, Derbyshire is a booming county. “With its central location and excellent transport links, it continues to attract inward investment and build on its reputation, both nationally and globally, as an excellent place to live and do business.” As far as his firm is concerned, Mr Singh said HSKS Greenhalgh had a busy 12 months ahead. He said: “Our main focus over the next 12 months is the implementation of our strategy and working hard to develop our brand, to demonstrate our commitment to providing a high quality service to the businesses of Derbyshire and the East Midlands. “HSKS Greenhalgh’s team of taxation, corporate finance, business advisory and accountancy experts work together with our clients to ensure they not only meet all of their obligations, but also maximise the opportunities available to them. “While we have a wide ranging client base, we have particular expertise in working with businesses in the education, agricultural, healthcare, hospitality, professional services and property sectors.” Kultaran Singh, managing director of HSKS Greenhalgh, Creative Industries Business of the Year Award sponsor. These are the ones that the Not- For-Profit Organisation Award aims to recognise. The category is being sponsored by recruitment specialists Sellick Partnership for the second year running. Sellick opened its Derby office in 2009. Since then, it has expanded its team and considerably increased its market share across the East Midlands. This success has led to Sellick always looking for new talent to join its team and support its growth. In 2013, the company was awarded an Investors in People Silver accreditation, as well as being listed by the London Stock Exchange in the Hot 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain list. Earlier this year, Sellick moved into a larger building on Pride Park. The company has now chosen its three finalists for the Not-For- Profit Organisation Awards. The winner will be announced at a ceremony which takes place at Derby College’s Roundhouse campus on June 24. Nikki Graham, associate director at Sellick, said the company was keen to back the awards this year following the success of the inaugural event last year. She said: “As a local business, we want to continue to support the development of the city and, specifically, celebrate the hard work, innovation and commitment of not-for-profit organisations in the area. “The process last year demonstrated how the awards recognise the dedication of the individuals who work in this sector and the difference that they make on a day-to-day basis. “So, I believe it’s vital that their work is acknowledged and that Sellick Partnership continues to sponsor the Derby Telegraph Business Awards.” Sellick has decided to continue backing the Not-For-Profit award because it is a sector in which the business operates. Miss Graham said: “As a specialist public sector and not-for- profit recruiter, there is a natural synergy between Sellick Partnership and the organisations entering this category. “We have a solid understanding of the challenges they face, as well as the hard work and commitment that goes into the diverse range of activities that they do. “The process that we went through last year really highlighted the number of influential and aspiring not-for- profit organisations that there are in Derbyshire. “The positive impact that the recognition of the Derby Telegraph Business Awards has on these organisations is significant.” Miss Graham believes the Nikki Graham, associate director at Sellick Partnership.
