Fourteen brothers at-tended the October 22 Ma-sonic Brotherhood Night event, featuring food and fellowship. The "Kitchen Krew”—B.O. Bryngelson, Paul Heckman and Ken Brickman—served up world champion award winning (really!) chili and

trimmings and topped it off with ice cream and cookies. While cards and cribbage were available, the evening turned into a general "bull session" enjoyed by all, including several brothers who hadn't stopped by the

Welcome to the White Shrine of Jerusalem!

We would love to welcome all of you Masons and Ladies to come into our Madon Shrine No. 38, Marshalltown, to enjoy the beauty of our White Shrine, which is all about the birth, life, death, and resurrection of our Beloved Lord, Jesus Christ.

Join with us, in His celebration, and the fun and fellowship we all share with our friends in Masonic activities and for the goo of our Fraternities.

We are so proud of all our Masons and the good they all do for this country and all across this huge world of ours. We have several White Shrine clubs across Iowa and other states and we also have an Iowa White Shrine club. We have our Supreme White Shrine, over all our states, and it meets once a year at a site chosen by the current Supreme Worthy High Priestess and Supreme Watchman of Shepherds.

Our locals meet once a month with a brief meeting and lunch and fellowship. Madon Shrine meets on the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. and we are very proud of all our Masons and Ladies who are so faithful in attending our meetings and take part in our activi-ties. We would love to welcome more of you into our membership.

Let’s all do all we can to promote Masonry and all the good we can do through all the Ma-sonic Organizations.

Marshall Lodge No. 108, A.F. & A.M. has the honor of being assigned the kick-off date and prime location for the Salva-tion Army Red Kettle campaign! The brothers will man the kettle and ring bells on Saturday, November 16 at Hy-Vee from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

All Masons, family and friends are encouraged to support these efforts by making donations to the Salvation Army at the Hy-Vee location during that date and time. The Lodge will get credit for all contributions collected then.

Anyone on the list unable to ring bells Nov. 16 are asked to get their own replacements and notify Jim Hunt, 752-5401 (work); 751-2303 (cell); or 752-8522 (home).

Masonic Activities

Page 3 Volume 1, Issue 2

November is the month for officer elections for many of the Masonic organizations. One purpose of Masonry is to better and improve oneself and being an officer is one such way.

Central Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star is also having a proficiency exam for several of its members at the Nov. 5th meeting. Visitors are welcome.

Bills for membership dues will be sent around the same time as this newsletter. Most of the bodies have in their by-laws a statement to the effect that dues are payable in advance, by January 1st of each year. Please take a few minutes to send yours before the rush of the holidays isupon you.

Office manager Linda Smith is taking vacation time from Nov. 16 through 24.

The all-Masonic Christmas Party will be in early December, but the specific date had not been set before The Design had to be printed. Further information will be sent as soon as it is determined.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Take pride in your Masonic membership!

There are a number of Masonic items available for immediate purchase at the office.

Merchandise includes the Marshalltown 150th Anniversary coin, car emblems, tie tac/lapel pins and a book, The Craft and Its Symbols.

There are also Masonic catalogs that feature jewelry, mugs, plaques—even socks!—all proudly proclaiming your Masonic membership.

Freemasonry: The brotherhood of man under the fatherhood of God.

BROTHERLY LOVE, RELIEF, AND TRUTH

I am proud to represent Marshall-town and Iowa as I travel around the country. In many instances I also have the opportunity to represent our General Grand High Priest Ted Harrison, whom I have come to know and respect over the years and am pleased at the good work he does throughout the world.

He never forgot where he came from and the importance of the Local Chapters and the commitment to do all in his power to see that proper service is provided to help the locals as much as possible. He knows how important it is to extend the benefits around the world that we all want taken care of.

General Grand High Priest Ted and his officers travel and extend new

chapters and service existing chap-ters around the world.

I am very happy to be an officer in our local Chapter, Council, and Com-mandery with PGC & PGHP Greg An-dersen who, along with myself, also belongs to Newton York Rite.

In closing, I thank all who are making a special effort to improve our com-munication and organizational skills to better serve our fraternity.

Remember, “Nothing happens, unless we make it happen”. Let’s do it for our fraternity that we love so much.

What is Freemasonry? Freemasons are a unique institution that has been a major part of community life in America for over 250 years. It is Amer-ica’s largest and oldest fraternity, and one that continues to be an important part of many men’s personal lives and growth.

The fraternity of masons is an organiza-tion of men bound together with a phi-losophy of moral standards, mutual un-derstanding and brotherhood in which all men are on a level and equal.

Masons are men who have decided they like to feel good about themselves and others. They care about the future as well as the past, and do what they can, both alone and with others, to make the future good for everyone.

Many men over many generations have answered the question, "What are the Masons?" One of the most eloquent was written by the Reverend Joseph Fort Newton, an internationally honored min-ister of the first half of the 20th Century and Grand Chaplain, Grand Lodge of Iowa, 1911-1913.
