4G THE DESERT SUN | DESERTSUN.COM | SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1,2015 'Sunset Reception at Swan House' shines Cindy Duffy Special To The Desert Sun An estate in the exclusive Thunderbird Heights neigh- borhood of Rancho Mirage was the site of Modernism Week's 'Sunset Reception at The Swan House,' one of the final celebrations of the weekend's Fall Preview activ- ities. Owners Kevin Kemper and Howard Hawkes of H3K, who purchased the foreclosed and rundown property in 2012, unveiled the beautifully reno- vated house to the delight of the exclusive gathering of midcentury modern architec- ture fans and preservation- ists. Originally built for the Eaton family in 1958, the Swan House exemplifies the grand optimism of the period, with walls of glass, canti- levered overhangs, and high ceilings. Guests dined on catering by Jake's Palm Springs as they strolled through the spacious great room, open kitchen, media room, bedrooms and formal dining room, all expertly re-imagined for today's living by H3K. Seen enjoying the breath- taking views from the pool deck of the spectacular house were Elizabeth Armstrong, Executive Director, Palm Springs Art Museum, Martin Massiello, COO and Exec- utive Vice President of Eisen- hower Medical Center, and Jeffery Weyant, Anne Rowe, Director of Collections and Exhibitions for the Annen- berg Retreat at Sunnylands, Keith Markovitz from TTK Represents, Modern Home owners Mark and Kristine Davis, artist Phillip K. Smith III, and photographer Jim Riche with his wife Melissa. Also attending was the Mod- ernism Week board of direc- tors and staff, as well H3K clients Tim and Amy Brink- man, owners of the Twist, and DeeDee and Greg Bar- ton, CPA. Proceeds from the event will support Modernism Week's mission and the effort to preserve and relocate Albert Frey's 1931 Alumi- naire House to Palm Springs. The effort is being led by J.
