The demand of power is escalating in the world of electricity. This growth of demand
triggers a need of more power generation. DG uses smaller-sized generators than does
the typical central station plant. Distributed generators are small scale generators
located close to consumers.
Distributed generation in simple term can be defined as a small-scale generation. It is
active power generating unit that is connected at distribution level.
These generators are distributed throughout the power systemcloser to the loads. The
DG penetration in the grid poses newchallenges and problems to the network operators
as these can have a significant impact on the system and equipment operationsIn terms
of steady-state operation, dynamic operation, reliability, power quality, stability and
safety for both customersand electricity suppliers.
Here we are only concerned about the impact of distributed generation on power quality.
While the energy conversion technology may play some role in the power quality, most
power quality issues relate to the type of electrical system interface.
Generators must be sized considerably larger than the load to achieve satisfactory power
quality in isolated operation.
A load is a demand for electric power. In power-grid management all loads are identified by the
bus at which they connect to the distribution grid. There are three categories of loads:residential, commercial and industrial
Residential load = the demand for electric power from home-owners, apartment dwellers and
any other form of residence.

C ommercial load = the demand for electric power from shopping malls, stores, governmentagencies and light business activities.
Industrial load = the demand for electric power from manufacturing facilities and other forms of
heavy industry.
There are different load connected in the Ned University of engineering and technology.
Like as resistive loads, capacitive loads, inductive loads.
The loads may be linear as well as nonlinear.
In Ned, the demand is 2 kw.
In which it runs, different offices, departments, labs, gymnasium, sport complex, medical
centre, admin block food corner, and mosque too.
Distributed generation, also called on-site generation, dispersed generation, embedded generation,
decentralized generation, decentralized energy or distributed energy, generates electricity from many
small energy sources.
Distributed generation is another approach. It reduces the amount of energy lost in transmitting
electricity because the electricity is generated very near where it is used, perhaps even in the same
building. This also reduces the size and number of power lines that must be constructed.
Distributed generation have
low maintenance,
low pollution and
high efficiencies
lower-cost electricity
higher power reliability
fewer environmental consequences than can traditional power generators.
DG also reduces the size of the power plant.
Effect to environment due to longer distance.
