Term 4 Grade Newsletters

Grade Newsletters have been uploaded to both the school website and Schoolstream for your information. Please take the time to read these newsletters to keep you up to date with what your child is doing this Term. You will also find that Library news appears as a separate newsletter this term.

Swim Scheme

Permission notes have been sent home to those students who have now been allocated a place in the Department of Education’s Swim Scheme program. This permission note is due for return, with payment, by Wednesday 9 November to secure a place for your child. Those students who registered an Expression of Interest but who are already able to swim up to 25m have been placed on a reserve list and will be offered a place if one becomes available. The school is not able to accommodate all students, so priority has been given to those who cannot swim or are only able to swim between 10 & 25m. Thank you for your understanding.

Selective High School Applications – placement in 2018

Please apply online at: www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement .

The closing date for applications is Monday 14 November – no applications will be accepted after this date. All applicants are required to sit the Selective High School Placement Test which will be held on Thursday 9 March 2017.

Are you returning to the Dem in 2017?

Thank you for all the ‘returning’ notes that have been received. For those who have yet to advise us if your child is or isn’t returning to the Dem next year, please see page 3 for a copy of this note and ensure it is sent to the office ASAP.

Class Placements for 2017

A reminder for parents who feel there are exceptional circumstances that need to be considered when allocating your child to a class for 2017 that a referral form will need to be submitted to the School’s Learning Support Team. This form will need to be completed by your child’s current school or pre-school teacher and by you.

Please complete either the

request form to have your child separated from another student, or

request form for your child to be placed with another child.

Please be aware that these requests are only granted in exceptional circumstances. You will find a copy of these forms on pages 4-5 of this newsletter or on the school website under Notes and Forms.

These request forms need to be returned to the school office by Friday 18 November.

Demountable Classrooms 2017

Parents and carers may have noticed the relocation and removal of two demountables from the 3-6 playground. The relocation of these demountables was required in preparation for the arrival of a double classroom which will be installed in this space prior to the start of the 2017 school year. One of the existing demountables is now relocated adjacent to Bay Rd behind the Hall, and the other will be relocated where the cricket pitch currently stands (adjacent to the basketball court). The additional classrooms will provide us with the rooms required to accommodate the 35 classes expected to be formed in 2017. While it is a shame to have to say goodbye to our cricket nets, an audit of all playground spaces indicated that this was the least used space during recess and lunch time.

FABStar!

FABStar! is an initiative to recognise

positive behaviours in the

playground. A FABStar! slip was

drawn from all the students who

received FABStar! slips in

recognition of their positive

behaviours on the playground last

week.

The K-2 Fabstar! this week is Kelvin from Kindergarten who helped a parent in the playground who had dropped a toddler’s shoe without realizing it. Kelvin saw what happened, picked the shoe up and ran to give it back.

The Year 3-6 Fabstar! this week is Sydney in Year 4 who volunteered to retrieve a ball from the girls bathroom.
