Irritable Bowel Syndrome

5 simple ways to improve your gut health

Are you struggling daily with one or more of the following symptoms: abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating, excess wind and/or altered bowel habits? It could be Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). It’s a topic many of us do not discuss, but the fact is that IBS is a very common condition which affects up to 30% of people at some stage in their life (mainly affecting women between 20 - 60 years). It may be caused by a variety of things including food sensitivities, intolerances, stress, imbalance of gut bacteria and hormones to name a few. So how can you manage this sometimes debilitating condition? The following are some simple strategies which may help: Consume probiotics daily to improve the

balance of good bacteria in your gut (such as yoghurt, sauerkraut, miso soup and probiotic supplements)

Limit alcohol, caffeine and spicy foods as these can irritate your gut

Practice regular de-stressing techniques (yoga anyone?!)

Regular exercise and 6-8 glasses water per day

Reduce consumption of high FODMAP containing foods**. This may include wheat, onion, garlic, high fructose fruits (apples/pears), lactose (in dairy) to name a few!

The DeeVine Yogi

Are you spending your life loving what you do and doing what you love? Are you setting goals and achieving them (or at least working your way towards them). Are you striving to make your little part of the world, a better place? Maybe it’s time to put YOU first. Bring the focus inward, and manifest YOUR dreams. Here are 6 simple steps in the right direction, that can be adapted to most goals and ambitions:

1 Kindness to self and others Take time every single day, to do something kind for yourself, and something kind for someone else....and expect nothing in return. I know – cliché – but will completely change your outlook, AND make you feel amazing.

2 Be honest with yourself Stop making excuses for why you can’t get it done and start focusing on all the reasons why you must make it happen. No more negative, stop expecting others to do the hard yards for you, no more desperation for quick fixes, stop blaming others, and stop saying “I’ll do it tomorrow”.

3 Don’t wait for someone’s approval There will always be people judging, sniggering (trust me on this one!)....do it anyway! In my experience, the more successful or ambitious you are, the more people waiting in the wings to laugh at your failure – strive to achieve anyway. Just do it.

6 ways to create your own version of success

4 Be prepared to face-plant. Often! Get in there and get your hands dirty. No airy-fairy wishing it would happen....you have to do it yourself. And when you do, be prepared to fail over and over...but be prepared to get up again, and again, and again. It’s about being resilient. Yes, have your moment of whinging and whining (and in my case, wah waaahhh-ing), but then get back up and keep creating, manifesting, researching, developing and implementing your strategies. Don’t forget, every failure is one step closer to achievement, at least you know not to try THAT again!

5 Be clear about what you value Work out what’s important, to YOU. Do you really need that third car, or private jet? Personally, I’d rather earn a little less, and focus on making others feel great about themselves – allow others to find hope in humanity. Not everyone is in business for a quick-dollar...but some just wish to leave the world a better place. Work out WHAT you want, and WHY you want it.

6 Mentor. Share experience. Help others. When you reach the point that you feel you’re achieving, help someone else build their own dreams. Provide a platform for others to follow their own path, with gentle guidance and advice. Choose “your people” carefully – There will be many who want to cling onto your coat tails, hoping you will propel them to happiness. Instead, choose someone who is willing to learn, willing to listen, willing to put in 110% effort, willing to fail, in order to succeed. Why I do this? I am passionate about empowering people to take control of their own lives whilst being there to walk alongside them. I am an advanced accredited social worker,registered with the AASW and a National Disability Insurance Scheme provider. I have extensive experience in; working with families with a child with Autism, running social skills groups for adults and children with ASD, the facilitation of support groups, volunteer training and coordination, teaching, mentoring. I am the mother of four children ranging in age from five to fifteen. I have one child with Autism and thus know how difficult the systems are to navigate and how difficult the parenting journey can be. I want to share this journey with you .
