Clara’s Christmas Dream puts a different spin on the classical ballet e Nutcracker, and adds creativ- ity, flair, and fun to its all new cho- reography. e characters and plot remain similar to the story of e Nutcracker; Clara’s Dream begins with her family hosting a Christ- mas Party on Christmas Eve with plenty of guests and festive danc- ing. Clara’s favorite Uncle Drossel- meyer arrives with many magical gifts. Drosselmeyer’s special gift for Clara is a toy soldier doll, who is actually Drosselmeyer’s nephew. A spell has been placed on him by the wicked Mouse Queen. Drossel- meyer weaves his magic and brings the toy soldier to life. He must fight the Mouse Queen in order to be able to fall in love. Clara witnesses the battle between the quirky mice, tap- ping soldiers and the Mouse Queen. Clara helps defeat the Mouse Queen and the soldier doll now become’s Clara’s Prince. Clara’s wish to find her true love has now come true. e Prince and Clara begin a mys- tical journey through the Land of Snow and then to the Lovely Palace of the Sweets. Cushing has also been heard in Boston’s premiere of Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brazileiras No. 5 with bassoons, and in Worcester’s criti- cally acclaimed performance of the poetry of Stanley Kunitz, set to mu- sic by composer David McKay. She is the founder and director of the Greater Gardner Youth Choir and the Mount Wachusett Community Choir, and was recently appointed director of the Nashua Choral Soci- ety.
