THE POLITICAL STRUCTURE OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC
PARLIAMENT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC
The Parliament of the Czech Republic is the legislative body of the Czech Republic, situated in Prague.
It consists of two chambers, both directly-elected:
the Chamber of Deputies - lower house the Senate - upper house
Besides passing the laws, the Parliament has got other competences such as:- creating a state budget- election of the President- modify the Constitution- ratify international agreements- declare war, etc.
THE CHAMBER OF DEPUTIES
•The chamber of deputies has got 200 members. •The election take place every 4 years. •The main function of the Chamber of Deputies is to propose and approve the laws•Today, the Chamber of Deputies is compound of 5 parties:
ODS – Civic democratic party
ČSSD – Social democratic party
KSČM – Communist party
KDU-ČSL – Christian party
Green party
THE SENATE
•The Senate has got 81members.
•One third of the senators is changed every 2 years.
•Each senator is elected for 6 years.
•The Senate can delay a proposed law approved by the Chamber of Deputies
but this veto can be overridden by an absolute majority of all members of the
Chamber of Deputies (i.e. 101 of 200) in a repeated vote.
THE GOVERNMENT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC
The Government of the Czech Republic is created on the basis of elections to
the Parliament of the Czech Republic.
The government is the highest body of executive power, and is made up of
the prime minister, the deputy prime ministers and ministers.
The government is responsible to the Chamber of Deputies.

The government is divided into 16 departments, such as:

THE PARTICIPATION
the Participation programme is supposed to young people involved in public
life and politics
the idea of Participation comes from France
the programme helps to develop rhetorical skills, willingness to educate
yourself and to take over the responsibility for others
young people have the opportunity to express their opinions, develop their
own legal conscience, the conscience of a future active citizen.
NPDM – THE NATIONAL PARLIAMENT OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH
the National Parliament of children and youth was founded in 1997
once a year there is a main session of the Parliament, the session takes place
mainly in Prague
the National Parliament is the highest youth political body in the Czech
Republic
it is responsible for the regional, town and school parliaments
it is the advisable body for the Parliament of the Czech Republic
the presidium includes 14 members, according to 14 regions in the Czech
Republic
ZMOK – THE YOUTH COUNCIL OF THE OLOMOUC REGION
The Youth Council of the Olomouc Region was founded in 2003
it is the advisable body for the Regional Council of Olomouc
it is responsible for the town and school parliaments (at CMG)
provides many interesting actions, such as the Debate Contest
it is the students‘ contest in debating
the students debate mainly on political topics
it is possible to debate in Czech and English
CMG is about to start coaching the team for the contest
