THE CROSS CONNECTION January 1, 2017
Love – Grow – Serve
Dear Forest Hill Friends, Happy New Year! I hope your holiday season was a blessed one. I certainly know that being a part of this church and all its activities has been a blessing to me and my family, especially through the holidays.
As we begin a new year there is always the sense of a fresh start. A new year brings new plans, new hopes, and resolutions to start new habits and practices. I invite you to be in prayer about all of the opportunities there are to begin anew at church this year. As we move into the year, there are and will be opportunities to learn, grow, and serve as we are always seeking ways to love God and others. I hope you will mark your calendars with some of the invitations below:
Winter Kick Off and Chili Cook-off Sunday, January 8 – 5:00 Multipurpose Center
Make a pot of chili to be judged or just come out to enjoy some chili together with your church family. There will be prizes for most unique, spiciest, and best all around. After dinner we will enjoy games together – bingo, board games, etc. Bring your favorite game to play if you would like. Our youth and parents will split off for a parent meeting and small groups to prepare for the winter, spring, and summer youth activities.
New Studies for 2017
Disciple Bible Study Fast Track Beginning January 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Administration Building, the group will begin the study of the New Testament. Come join Pastor Mandy for this 12-week study that covers many over-arching themes in the New Testament of the Bible. Holding Up Your Corner Beginning Sunday, January 22 at 6:00 p.m. and Monday, January 23 at 10:00 a.m., we will read and explore Rev. Dr. F. Willis Johnson’s study Holding Up Your Corner, which helps us as a Christian community address issues of race and injustice together. Look for more info about
other studies and groups in the weeks to come.
MLK Service Project Monday, January 16 – Time TBA
Help prepare food and pack bags for hungry students in Cabarrus County Schools. This is a great way to serve for people of all ages!
I hope to see you in 2017!
In God’s love, Pastor Suzanne

To a Happy and Healthy 2017!
There will be lots of opportunities in 2017 to become a healthier you! The best way to start off a new year is to be mindful
of what you are doing. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you spending time with God in His word and in prayer? Are
you doing something active every day? Are you paying attention to what you are eating? If you do these four things on a
daily basis, you will not only be physically healthier, but mentally and spiritually also!
Forest Hill has lots of opportunities to improve your health this year! There are opportunities for spiritual growth in small
groups and Bible studies. There are also many opportunities for service and ministry (doing something for others boosts
your immune system and makes you feel mentally and physically better longer than a massage!) The Health Ministry team
will be offering health education and wellness opportunities throughout the year. You can get moving with Chair Aerobics
or Footprints Walking Club. On January 24 we will host our first educational event: Cooking Matters at the Store. It will
be held at Forest Hill in the Administration Building. They are bringing the grocery store to us! It is a class on reading
labels, and shopping for and preparing healthy meals on a budget. Plus, you’ll go home with lots of recipes and meal ideas!
Mind, body, and soul. Physical, mental and spiritual health, let’s take care of it all this year, right at home at Forest Hill!
Health and Wellness Opportunities
Footprints Walking Club: All are welcome!: Fridays at 9:15, Carolina Mall. We will meet weekly and walk the mall.
Start walking off those Christmas pounds, make new friends, and reduce stress!

Building. A guided grocery store tour teaching skills for buying healthy foods on a budget. Free recipe book and reusable

Health Risk Assessment: Coming in January/February—fill out a short questionnaire and learn where your health risks lie
and what opportunities are available for improving your health!

Praying Together - St. Paul encourages us saying,
“Pray always. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.” (Ephesians 6:18). Join us on Wednesday mornings at 7:30 am at Punchy’s Diner (550 Concord Pkwy. N.). We’ll gather in the private dining area for a brief morning devotion and to pray for Forest Hill, for the needs of our community and the world, and for one another. Come for prayer, come for breakfast, come for both. All are welcome!
OUR SENIOR GROUP – we didn’t forget!!! There has been some interest, and we are working on getting things organized! With the holidays so close, we will plan on getting together after the first of the year. Watch the bulletin for details.
